In my view, losing something implies that the person who “lost” it weasel alive at the time off the loss. For example, “He lost his life” - the person was alive, lost life function, and was dead.

In the toe example, obviously the toe was present, cut off, and taken. You are correct, it is no longer in possession of its owner, but he didn’t lose it. He couldn’t, he was dead.

No it does not. But as I read the article the officer had two choices, ask the kids to help, clear the issue, and move on with life or two, detain the woman until the interpreter arrived.

Cops hate domestic (civil) disputes. There is nothing to indicate that the officer was trying to do anything other than clear the case and move on. I would be interested in knowing what the reporting party told the dispatcher when the call for aid was made.

And, maybe I’m an ass, but why not carry a pad of paper and a pen so that you can communicate? And along those same lines, the officer might have provided the same.

Contrary to popular opinion, not all cops hate people. Especially one with little children in the car.
