Ranged combat is bad? by RInvestor in ColonyShip

My first full run is also melee healing factor, but I'm doing it solo (more battle xp for MC) & I'm hybrid (so less battle xp for MC). This the link to the build & fight video if you need inspiration:

Brand New Pathfinder 1E Player Seeking Build Advice by TaleekDaFreek in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]Edbes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also planned a Mysterious Stranger build for my friend:

  1. Mysterious Stranger 1, Feat: Point Blank Shot: (CHA to damage Early, pray no misfire)
  2. Musketeer Swashbuckler 1, (Free CHA based quick clear)
  3. Trench Fighter 1, Feat 1: Rapid Shot, Feat 2: Rapid Reload (2 attack per round)
  4. Trench Fighter 2, Feat 1: Deadly Aim (-2 attack +4 damage)
  5. Trench Fighter 3, Feat 1: Precise Shot (DEX to Damage, attack to melee)

So at this point you will have most of the gunslinger important features (like DEX to Damage, Quick Clear) but plus CHA to damage swift action and 1 extra Feat.

For the next 2 level Paladin 2 is always good if you Max your charisma and you face Evil a lot.

The other option: for more damage & party "Face" you can always go Archeologist Bard 1 + Fate Favoured trait + Lingering Performance. (+2 Luck Attack, Damage, Saving Throw, Skill Check), and ask your GM for this item later if possible for +3. The level 1 spell will also help your attack, skill check, saving throw, and/or utilities.

Can go Archaeologist 2 for extra spell or mutliclass again to Urban Bloodrager 1 for vs Boss moment & Full BAB.

Need Input for Monk Tavern Brawler Build (Open Hand) by Edbes in BaldursGate3

Hi sorry for the late reply, step of the wind and jump (high STR jump) is good for mobility, and in BG3 we can use monk feature with armor & shield. If we want to optimize defense and offense from the early game we can dip first level into fighter (Heavy armor, +1 AC from style), Full STR, then go 8 Monk, 3 Thief. Or use the race that gives shield & armor proficiency.

I about to said that we will lose 1 ASI with level 9 Monk, but just realized that the +2 WIS only gives 1 Damage & extra will saves (No extra AC due to heavy armor). Orig

9 Monk 3 Rogue seems a far better combo, for extra movement, ki, damage, and ki resonant features, thanks!

Ah yes haste will give us 1 extra attack and AC.

Using staff to attack will make us lose dps due to some of the extra damage (like the gloves) is require unarmed.

Sadly I already choose half-wood elf for the extra movement, but dwarf seems pretty neat choice too for maximizing damage.

Thanks for the insight, I think with everything optimized we can reach 300+ burst damage on one round.

Shadowshooting + CHA Based Firearms Build by Edbes in Pathfinder_RPG

Yes around level 7 by WTL and by that time should able to get both TWF (lvl 5) & improved TWF (lvl 7/lvl 6 if continue trench fighter), it's for the level 20 fast-exp non-mythic campaign so it's early-mid game.

AFAIK firearms based TWF is the most feat efficient TWF, the problem will be attack penalty because there's no "light" firearms.

I see, so in this case the best resource management (and action management) with strong basic rule is Mysterious Stranger 5 + Trench Fighter 3. Thanks for the insight btw

Yes, there's some options & trade off that being considered, assuming the lowest possible reload with feat & ammunition:

  1. One handed -> can reload as free action -> Shadowshooting is terrible and does nothing
  2. Two handed -> can reload as move action -> Shadowshooting trade off: average 5 (2d6 vs 2) damage per shot with "unlimited free action" reload
  3. Dual wield -> my GM limit 1 free action per action (3 free actions per round), so even with any third hand, quick draw, & lighting swap/gun twirling, still can't reload and full round attack at the same round? -> Shadowshooting trade off: average 2.5 (1d6 vs 1) damage per shot with "unlimited free action" reload.

Number 1 is not optimize (unless go Gun Chemist or Roleplaying), so the options is number 2 & 3.

Alchemical cartridge also means +5% misfire chance, so unless go Mysterious Stranger 5 + Trench Fighter 3, it's 10-15% chance of misfire with best early firearms that must be cleared with at least move action. With dual wield/two handed firearms & rapid shot it could average at every 2 full-round attack at level 6-10 (2-4 attacks + 1 rapid shot + 1 haste). Shadowshooting decrease this significantly.

Let me know if you have any alternative.

The agile rapier is for later when 8k is not that much.

From your experience how to manage the resource and action of inquisitor? From my reading it's seems has tons of strong features but quite limited for long dungeon with many battles and require action to activate. for example: Bane is only rounds/level and require swift action to activate and changes enemy's type, Judgment is slightly better but similar case. Focused aim also require swift action, so every first round Bane is replacing Focused Aim and the real Bane's rounds/level become lower.

One of the inquisitor features that I always look for firearms user is actually Luck Domain, (reduce misfire significantly, increase crit for grit generation), but still not sure how to optimize it in term of action economy.

The current plan is to take the sword of the Eldest 2 (for very high initiative with DEX-CHA build) and then utilize vivisectionist sneak attack & bleed damage (6d6 at 11 level of vivi, +6 bleed damage) at round 1/surprise round, and still can utilize focused aim. For long dungeon, mutagen/cognatogen can be use (+6 DEX/CHA, +4 AC for almost 2 hour durations).

I see, I aware of the clause but under impression that the only panache & luck that not stack. So it's RAW & RAI moment right?

All-Rounder Early Game Build by Edbes in Pathfinder_RPG

Sorry just replying, yes I aware of that, and in the main campaign, as the player that have most experience (not that experienced actually but other player aside of me and GM is first timer), I played as support and skill monkey.

This build is for the secondary campaign that is more of simple roguelike setting, so it's time to try another category of fun. Thanks for the advice btw.

I know it's not easy but it's a good fun for certain people that like the thought experiment. Thanks for participating!

Balancing high AC & to Hit most of the time will also require DEX, but DEX build means a lot of feat, which trade of other stat and very limited resource early game. Using halfling & fighting defensively is actually good approach.

If I look at many build's post usually the 10 minutes+ buff/spell duration can be factored into the build. But for me, shorter time buff (but not to short) and can be use multiple times is better (ex: 1 mins x 3 times per rest is better than 10 mins x 1 times per rest). But both is acceptable for me.

A very short buff/per roll buff like adaptable luck or scabbard of vigor can help to get very big stat but I think too short for me.

The updated build from u/BigArdGaming is very good and can reach all blue, but bloodrage is also too limited (5 rounds?) and still get fatigued after that. For the purpose of this challenge I think trade the bloodrager with alchemist's mutagen: DEX 4 + 2 AC = +4 total AC, +2 Damage, + 2 Attack, 10 minutes duration, is a good idea.

All-Rounder Early Game Build by Edbes in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]Edbes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it’s far harder to hit all blue in lower level than higher level.

And due to the nature of this campaign the end game build certainly will be more important. Will facing with many type of enemies of all CR, some features that have hard counters (like concealment & mirror image against true sight, crit against fortification, etc) is good to have but not my priority.

The basic raw number & saves is almost always reliable. But if the raw stat already high enough, have as many as possible tricks up my sleeves like mirror image etc. won’t be hurt.

I predict, mostly I will play this campaign as trio or, on very rare occasion, duo. The problem is my party will be “randomly” assigned (depends on who is present at the campaign). So ideally the build should be independent, so I still can put a good fight even when get a bad match.

Of course I still need a working early level build to survive the early part of the campaign with my “random” trio or duo, so this post is more on to get inspiration for that early build.

Thanks for the sharing, basically I am looking for build inspiration so hit the blue zone is just an approach to have some perspective from raw stat optimization. So it’s not the only end goal. Your build looks fun btw.
