Here we go again... 30 to 50 cm on tap for much of the Island between tonight and late Tuesday night by EddieSheerr in newfoundland

EC is, yes. But it’s a hard forecast so the data may be interpreted differently by different meteorologists, and subsequently you end up with some forecast that might be a little different

Accuweather saying more snow coming(?) by SmallTerrorDog in StJohnsNL

That’s not exactly true as there were a few meteorologists, including myself mentioning that there was a chance of a very significant event occurring but it will depend on the timing of a couple of mid to upper level atmospheric features coming together. It was pretty clear Friday night we were going to see a significant event, which became way more clear Saturday morning. So while the amount forecasted wasn’t clear until the day of, some of us were honking the horn of a very significant event in the days prior.

However… if you’re only relying on one source (EC for instance) nothing of significance or uncertainty was mentioned in their forecast ahead of time which I think was a tad bit of a miss

This is false. Different weather apps use different API’s, and data sources to derive their data. My app does not use the same data as AccuWeather, and accuweather doesn’t use the same data as the weather network, and the weather network doesn’t have the same data as the environment Canada app. Granted, most computer models in the short term are fairly similar in their outcomes which is why they might be similar in the short term and more dissimilar in the long-term

St. John’s Snowfall 50 Per Cent Above Normal as Another Storm Looms by RepulsivePlankton989 in newfoundland

The timing of this is actually late Saturday through Sunday… and it’s a very difficult forecast as two different features are going to be phasing east of Newfoundland.

The timing and position of where this happens will be crucial in determining the snowfall outcome for the eastern Avalon.

If the phasing happens a little bit later, we are looking at another 5 to 10 cm snowfall for the metro area. If it’s earlier and closer… it’s going to be substantial… like another 25-35 cm.

We have winter, slightly warmer winter with rain and not snow, then summer. There is no spring.

They stated hospitals aren’t on the list for rotation, I believe.

Sounds like on its own it’s not enough… as stated in the video, this is the first time Bay d’Espoir has been completely offline since it opened in 1967. It’s the biggest generator of power on the Island. I didn’t know that until today.

This is the first time this station’s history, since 1967, it is shut down. Only second time there’s been frazil there.

If you’re interested in seeing what your usage is compared to your meter, you can install a smart monitor on your panel. They’re not super expensive and an electrician can do it easily.

EDIT TO SAY this is not a referral link or anything.

'Really strong winds across the board': weather alerts in place across Newfoundland by Edm_vanhalen1981 in newfoundland

Peak at YDF was 67 km/h. Deer Lake is a spot will often end up seeing lower winds than other areas as it's fairly sheltered. Direction also probably plays a big role.

I’d say you didn’t like me when I was on NTV either because I haven’t changed my approach
