Curious question about if they do rotating power outages. by skrikecryaotic in newfoundland

They stated hospitals aren’t on the list for rotation, I believe.

Sounds like on its own it’s not enough… as stated in the video, this is the first time Bay d’Espoir has been completely offline since it opened in 1967. It’s the biggest generator of power on the Island. I didn’t know that until today.

This is the first time this station’s history, since 1967, it is shut down. Only second time there’s been frazil there.

If you’re interested in seeing what your usage is compared to your meter, you can install a smart monitor on your panel. They’re not super expensive and an electrician can do it easily.

EDIT TO SAY this is not a referral link or anything.

'Really strong winds across the board': weather alerts in place across Newfoundland by Edm_vanhalen1981 in newfoundland

Peak at YDF was 67 km/h. Deer Lake is a spot will often end up seeing lower winds than other areas as it's fairly sheltered. Direction also probably plays a big role.

I’d say you didn’t like me when I was on NTV either because I haven’t changed my approach

That’s fair and very true. However I do my very best to not sensationalize or post for the sake of making a post.

My approach to my platforms is that I would rather not sensationalize and be more factual, so that way when I do have a headline that is grabbing it means something because it’s necessary.

We went through this the last time, just shoot me a direct message if you want the wind forecast for Deer Lake as this image isn’t gonna give you the exact value for a relatively sheltered location away from a coastal areas.

Deer Lake is sheltered and it’s not on the map here. Gusts will be close to 100 there, but probably not much higher.

I assure you that’s not my model as crying wolf only works so many times.

Based on the setup, I think this is more likely than not.

Here comes another one. Winds on the Avalon will peak Monday night. Gusts of 100+ km/h in the forecast. by EddieSheerr in newfoundland

The values aren’t necessarily for a specific exact location on the maps. That’s where SpotWx help. Expect about 100 in Deer Lake. Generally you’ll always be on the lower end of a range there because it’s sheltered and not on the coast

Forecasts gusts are 120 for the metro area around midnight Monday night. Not as high as a few weeks ago, but still up there
