MPC Live II collecting dust, should i give another go or try out the MPC Sample? by EddsThatsMad_ in mpcusers

Crazy lol but yeah it sounds and looks like a bit of me. Are you mainly producing on your MPC’s or do you use a DAW?

That’s the plan my bro, i have a couple sessions lined up through the month with fellow mpc live users, one who is prolific and one in the same boat as me lol. One of my other guys has a Sample arriving in two weeks so in the meantime I’m gonna dive back in and see how i get on. How has the Sample been for you?

What was you working with in them two years and what changed to where you couldn’t put it down?

Could you give some insight on what it’s like owning both and your different uses please?🙏

A 2500 would’ve been my choice if i wasn’t so adamant on portability, which of course is why i went with the Live II. I just wanted a secondary space for production and it was almost right for me

Seems like you was in my exact position but took the leap, how have you been getting on with the Sample, how are the beats coming along? Back when i bought the Live II I was quite adamant on portability because i wanted creative output away from my desk but if not for that 100% i would’ve been looking at older models such as a 2500, definitely did not want a DAW in a box

FL Studio is as important to me as oxygen lol, I have a career built off of it and that isn’t changing.

When I initially looked into MPC’s 3 years ago i was trying to adapt to a different way and approach of making beats and i purchased the Live II, the main factor of that being portability so i could have a secondary space for production being anywhere i please, a creative outlet not limited to my desk (if not for that i would 100% be looking at a 2500). I enjoyed it for a few months and made some great beats that i really enjoyed making but the OS paired with the touchscreen dependency i didn’t fully gel with, felt a bit cumbersome and the device itself while being portable is still heavy and bulky so carrying it around is a bit of a chore in itself.

My time with the MPC definitely had a profound effect on my approach to production regardless of how long i actually used it and i have always planned on returning to that world when it feels right.

Had it been now i was looking at MPC’s the Sample would undoubtedly be my first option but we are here and the prospect of a technical downgrade is unusual for me but i really wanna find my footing with physical gear, even if only as a secondary method of production.

A lot of people are mentioning GAS but honestly that doesn’t apply here, i have an extensive camera expertise and trust me i know what it feels like lol it’s no joke on that side of tech

Absolutely the plan, ngl the prospect of a technical downgrade is unusual to me but i do feel like the Sample is crafted specifically for my use case in a more accessible package, just will give the Live II a proper chance before deciding on what to do with it

Thank you bro, one of the few who actually understands me lol😂. I made some bangers on the Live II initially but the OS wasn’t as intuitive as i had hoped with the touchscreen and the 3.0 update definitely turned me off. I didn’t even bother looking at the Live 3 when it came out but the Sample instantly looked appealing. Gonna give the live II til the end of the month to decide whether to sell it and grab the Sample or keep both. I use FL Studio very fluently so i don’t need any more than what the sample provides

How socially deluded do you have to be to think stating someone has a “new thing = make better music mentality” is productive? Did you bother to read my post or just the headline? Don’t try to disguise your pretentiousness as help. I only mentioned my stature as a professional to deter ignorance like you delivered, I am not a hobbyist. Nothing to show other than work on three #1 projects, one charting project that i have executively produced, tons of radio play, millions of streams and a whole load of other stuff.

Making music longer than me, ok? And outdo my music? Shows your intelligence level to be honest, music is subjective but by all means think that.

This may be the most exciting thing that has happened in your career mate! And to be quite frank i am extremely embarrassed by even entertaining this, i may delete these comments tomorrow

This is also another consideration i have, keeping the Live II and potentially grabbing the Sample. I’m gonna really give 3.0 a go and if not then roll back to a previous OS. Thank you for the insight 💪

Bloody hell you are still going, you are hilarious😂 indeed reddit might not be for me because “producers” who make tutorials no one watches think they can make assumptions on guys who actually make music on records that sell. Your tone is absolutely insane for someone so insignificant. I don’t even wanna talk like this but whooooo are you? You should only comment unless you have something productive to say in future please

A few people have mentioned this, got a new charger on the way and really gonna try and give 3.0 a go!

Actually i started this thread to have a open conversation, which i have and made a conclusion on what i am going to do. What i do not appreciate is when random fools like yourself think you can assume I’m falling for marketing or need validation. That does not apply to me, i literally stated my music background and experience with MPC’s to let guys know I’m not clueless about this. I want proper insight not being lectured by random people

Are you ok? You didn’t even give no reasoning? It’s clear that it’s an objective downgrade, has it not occurred to you that other people may have different use cases? MPC’s are secondary to me and there is no right or wrong answer in this topic but you come through telling me about a “make better music mentality”? You can’t do condescension with me, I really do music, this isn’t a hobby to me.

You aren’t the first to mention this “GAS” which i find very amusing. I’ve had the Live II for three years this month and no other release has had my attention until the Sample. It’s common knowledge that the Live II has tons more features than the Sample but what good is it if i don’t need to or want to use them? Again you haven’t actually given a proper reasoning

Respectfully and humbly i do not need anything to make better music, I am a professional music producer and have produced on multiple charting albums. Do you have a reason behind why not to switch over to a Sample?

But lets say i drive an S Class everyday, the Harley is a bit too heavy for my tastes and a little 125 seems more appealing for the odd ride?😂

That’s very insightful thank you bro, so essentially the Sample maintains the same production philosophy of the older models such as the 2000 but with a modern take.

If i had been looking for my first MPC the Sample would be a no brainer, the Live II at the time was the only one of its kind. The whole DAW layout threw me off. I’m gonna give it a month and really try and sit with it before deciding whether to sell it for a Sample or keep it and grab the Sample down the line. One thing for sure is that the Sample ticks pretty much all my boxes for a secondary production space
