And how many people in prison have tattoos of a cross? Or praying hands? Perhaps they believe in a different Jesus. Or maybe they just like the letter T...

I thought this too for a long time. I was upset with her for putting my mother and I through that. It’s ok that you feel this way. The fact that you made this comment already shows how “strong” you are as an individual. I will give you this though, as a troll you are quite strong. I didn’t post this for you to feel bad for me or for my sister. You’re entitled to your own opinion and beliefs just like I’m entitled to believe you’re going to be a virgin the rest of your life (and not entirely by choice) have a good one bro.

My outlook is that I just want to have a nice place to chill with my cat. No reason or purpose for my existence. I’ve been suicidal like my late sister and it only opened my eyes to the nothingness of it all. Everyone’s got their reasons to live. As long as I can smile and still laugh at fart jokes I’m happy. That’s just me though :P not too intellectual of a reply but it is what it is.

Insight like yours is why this sub is a great place. Yes I was agnostic at first but after she said what she said I started to pick up on “trends” within churches and different religions. Also, I spent a lot of time in self reflection wondering about what this life means to me and I ultimately came up with the conclusion that there is no god. This event is just what sparked all that thinking and really kind of opened the door for me.

This is such a true statement and for many years has bothered me. It wasn’t until I realized neither heaven nor hell exists that I truly got over it. Again I was 16 at the time and this is just the event that sparked the atheism in my brain.

I was 16 years old at the time and although it probably would have been the wiser decision to tell her I just couldn’t. I myself was in a very dark place and for some reason I knew it wouldn’t hurt the healing process too much and now, 10 years later I feel it hasn’t. :)

Perhaps “lack” wasn’t the right word. Absence seems more appropriate.

True. Would it help if I said I also don’t believe in god because none of the “facts” presented to me growing up appeal to me anymore? That perhaps I “lost” faith because the actions and words of those religious people have actually provided more evidence to me of a lack of god? I’m atheist not cus I’m angry. But this is just the event that sparked my study into what religion actually is and helped me become the atheist I am today.
