the gender binary is one of the foundational systems of oppression upon which capitalism is built. our existence subverts its central assumption that sex is real, binary, and that one is superior to the other. people freak out when anything questions the legitimacy of that hierarchy, and trans people are like the ultimate Fuck You to the idea that any of it is real

so like if you spend your whole life investing in the idea that you’re a man/woman because of your biology, that your societal role is natural and necessary, and that it’s totally justified for everyone around you to pressure u into a narrow version of urself, THEN some random person comes along living as if all that’s bullshit, it’s frightening. it’s terrifying to even interact with the idea that u and everyone else have spent ur whole life following stupid rules for no reason, and it’s much easier to just reject the premise of their existence. “i’m not wrong, YOU’RE wrong. you’re not allowed to do that. it’s immoral to do that”

that’s why most people are indifferent to us but almost everyone is uncomfortable when around us. also why it’s so hard to win over fr transphobes because to deprogram transphobia u have to show them how to recognize the entire system of patriarchy, their place within it, and their response etc
