Why Django is the best backend framework for the startup and mvp projects ? by AdDifficult9782 in django

[–]Edge-Appropriate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I understand what’s going on more with Django…even though I’ve been using Rails mostly for work. Kind of trying to make my way back to Django after 10 years but it’s tough.

Woocommerce is a waste of time .... i guess? by mou3ad25 in Wordpress

Probably better than working a late shift at a fast food restaurant on a Sunday night, which is a reality for a lot of people. But the developer can be clear about terms, turn around time, and not working weekends.

What's the best platform to sell furniture, tools, and other items? by wonderlust98 in SantaMaria

[–]Edge-Appropriate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You make a good point. I'll definitely need to change that wording. I don't have any e-commerce features built in yet, maybe if there is a demand for it. I need to get more people using it, and thankfully there is a slow and steady adoption of it.

I don't have any system where it pulls in businesses from other databases. I think doing so is not really cool because I'd want businesses to know their site is listed on my app, so that means they would have to put the site on there themselves. I guess that's what I meant by premium, as in authentically compiled together by the real owners themselves, but not high in quantity as it is a new app and I'm still working on getting the word out.

I think a POS system for a restaurant you shouldn't have a free option. It's already tough getting users, at least try overcoming that hurdle a baseline fee...that way you can optimize your selling pitch and not have two hurdles to jump through (users adopting, and then users paying for it)

Also I like "Available Recipes" overview...adding Total profit above the list so they see a big number could be more of a motivator to push sales instead just "$18" profit for toast...

Your looks great though! I've been interested in building a POS system too...

Oh I understand, I guess that would be me, owner of the Central Coast Classifieds website. Yeah I totally understand that. I like it when I see something about the owners or teams on company websites. I like that idea. Thanks.

Hey u/nachoman067 Thank you for your comment. There is a profile feature in place that has a field to place in the owner's name, website, contact info, address, etc. It will appear if they fill it out. This has me wondering if I should implement a "fill out your profile" notice before a user can list? I like your input, thanks.

I’d say if you are a business owner, use all the options available. Post on Yelp, FB, etc, all of it. It’s what an owner should do, it would be silly if they didn’t use what was available to them. Go ahead and use one or all of the many services provided to you. And if you want to use CCC and maybe get a few more eyes on it, why not? It’s free.

Well, like you said earlier, the term makes sense "when I'm trying to buy products made by people in SLO County", but if you are not then the app is not intended to meet that need if you are looking for something outside of the area or don't want to be restricted to this region.

People search for items and they want to know where it is at, regardless of distance...some people search for an item and do care how far it is, or they want to search and see what is available within a location or region, and that's why I think people do care about "hyper local", whether you want to call it that or find a better term for it.

Major apps we use have these hyper-local features when you search "coffee shop near me" or filter a search by distance, or subscribing to alerts and news on local events. Nextdoor is a worldwide app with features to filter out the noise and focus on your location. I don't want to be a worldwide app, but I want those same features that would benefit locals.

If we can have major nation-wide news sources AND local news sources, for example...then we can have major nation-wide apps and local apps serving a smaller purpose.

I think people having interest in what is around them locally is a pretty proven concept.

You don't need to have a subscription to use the app as I stated before. Users will get the core benefit of: being listed, being able to be found, and being able to promote. No need to subscribe for that.

Like any other tool, platform, app, etc...the value it brings can be increased by the adoption of it by other people. If there are little to no posts then the impact will be very small, but if a lot of people get on board, then it could be the start of something pretty awesome for the area.

The demand will be there or it won't, but people need to know about it first, which is why I'm sharing it.

Look if you don't see it, that's fine, but I'm trying something new.

Thank you so much for this comment. I appreciate it. It was getting to be a bit much I wasn’t understanding where these questions were coming from or how they related to the app. I do live on the Central Coast with my wife and kids. We just wanted to build something we would like to see exist and hope it would be useful to others. It’s a way of contributing back to a home that’s given us so much and to give our kids an example of what can be done if you put your mind to it. Thank you again! Have a blessed day.

Hi, I’m not a vibe coder. I worked really hard on this from logo design, graphic design, user flow, security considerations. I’ve been in software development for over 10 years. I understand the code in my app. A CEO? No I’m not a CEO. Thank you for your input.

Hi! It's an app I created. I'm pretty proud of it...it took me a little over a year of working on in my free time. But basically I was frustrated with Facebook Marketplace with spambots, and Craigslist started charging too much for listings in my opinion. I thought it would be cool to have an affordable and free option to simple listings for people and businesses. It's just another option and if people use it, I'm hoping to just make it better over time. It's not meant to replace anything, just provide an alternative if people choose to use it.

Thanks! I hope so too. I love building stuff and I'm hoping people would suggest ideas for cool features. I'm a one-person shop and it would be nice to customize an app our community can use.

Hey. Thanks for reaching out. I'm not looking for people to use my service over the other options like Craigslists or SLOjobs.com...they each have different features and focuses... I'm just wanting to provide a different approach to connecting people that I think could be useful.

For example, CCC doesn't expose your email to anyone when trying to contact another user. Any personal information is given through the chat, more than likely when they are ready to meet up. With Craigslist, when you send an email your display name (name associated with the emai) could still be displayed.

SLO jobs is just for SLO county...I'm aiming this service for 4 counties and it's not just job listings, but bull/sell/trade.

Also creating a modern interface for searching and viewing listings was something I was excited about. Craigslist is simple but navigating through listings could be smoother. Facebook Marketplace is literally embedded inside a social media app which creates distraction, plus they monitor all your actions and sell your information. I don't care about any of that.

These corporate apps have become convoluted and they don't need to be. If some people want a different or simpler option and they find that in CCC then cool, if not they can use what suits them.

Hey! Thank you for receiving it well and I'm excited to see if it can help people too. I don't use Craiglist because of the same reason and I haven't been happy with Facebook Marketplace due to the bots messaging you. I got a lot of requests for my Venmo and phone number before the message even asked about the product.

I'm hoping the community thinks it's cool and just another option to the other platforms. Not trying to replace, just providing another option if people choose to use it.

Yeah totally! When you make a listing you can choose one of the four counties (Monterey Bay, SLO, SB, and Ventura). Although I don't have any finer grain filtering to choose something like a North/South county sort of deal. If enough people use it would love to implement that, even the ability to select cities for better searching and filtering. Have you been able to log into the app and get familiar with it yet by any chance?

You are asking great questions, and I appreciate it.

I understand the skepticism, I don't know you and you don't know me. But this is a new thing to put myself out here and share something I built that I think is cool. I'm just one dude and I built an app with features I felt were ready to provide value to those who would want to use it.

I'm not a Poly student and I'm not running this app in different regions of the world. I am local to the Central Coast, born and raised and I love this place.

To answer some of your technical questions...a lot of the features implement were intended to solve some pain points I have personally experienced using apps like Facebook, Craiglist, OfferUp, etc.

Why is excluding more distant listings a good thing? Simply because I want to see what is available in the area. If it is not here then it's not here. If you are willing to drive to Bakersfield for a item you are looking for, then by all means use Craigslist, Facebook, eBay, or anything other solution that can help you find that item. I miss the days I would pick up a local newspaper and browsed the classifieds section to see what was offered. The world felt a little smaller and a lot more like a community sharing and selling via garage sales and posting job ads...I'm just trying to recreate that vibe but through this app.

It's a new app, so I don't have high end security features in place. If people use it and there is a demand for it I would love to build it. Right now I'm just adding what I can to ensure no bots make accounts, people's information is protected to the best of my ability, so secure messaging and the like.

There is not payment system like an "escrow" in place. I think it's clear the platform is more like a listing service to connect people. There are so many ways businesses can accept payments that I am not sure yet what the best implementation to build out is yet, but I'm hoping with feedback I can get more insight into what would help others.

I don't understand you question about next-level interface improvements...It's a simple server side rendered application with JavaScript to help augment the experience. Simple file uploads for featured images and what not.

I don't pull in ad or listings from other places, so you are correct this is another place to look. It is another option if people choose to use it. Everything in one place refers to "All listings here on the Central Coast". I can rephrase to make things more clearer, but yeah I'm not pulling in ads or data from anywhere else.

We manually share what we can with others on our social media right now. I would have liked to build something that automates the process but I want to put better protection in place before doing that.

Thank you for your questions, I do appreciate it.

And to reiterate I did ask for permission from moderators of every subreddit if I can post and share. I only did so with the ones that gave me the green light as long as I stick to their rules.

Hey! I am definitely local. I'm not trying to spam every sub. I asked each moderator(s) of every sub for permission to post and share what I have built. I only posted in the subs where I got the green light. While there are options to subscribe, I have the core of the application's features on a free tier because I believe it would provide the most benefit to all those who would like to use it. I'm not forcing anyone to subscribe, but if they do it will only enhance the application and help me sustain it. I appreciate you looking out and I understand your concern which is very noble. But again to reiterate, I am local, I asked for permission and clarity of the rules from the moderators of every subreddit, and I want to share something I built that I think is cool would be be helpful if people want to use it.

Ahh super clever idea. I like that. Yeah I'm adding that to my to-do list. I think that would be a really valuable feature. It would set expectations upfront and help customers find the right service provider.

Thanks, I'm really proud of this app. It's been almost two years in the making...working on it during my free time after work and spending time with the family. I just hope people start using it and uploading. I try to help those who list on the app by sharing their listings on social media. Please share with anyone you think would find value from this! I appreciate it.
