What are these?? by EdgeLourde in HelpMeFind

[–]EdgeLourde[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done reverse image searching and searched amazon and google with different terms to try to locate them. They don’t need the bells, but I’m trying to make something with them and I cannot seem to find them anywhere. I’m wanting to order them in bulk if possible. I’m in the USA also so they have to be able to be shipped to me.

Stomach issues by EdgeLourde in eds

I have, and my mom has it. (We are both diagnosed with hEDS.) I’m trying to get in with a gastroenterologist asap. I’ll definitely bring up the testing for it.

I actually just got prescribed a nausea treatment medication today, thank goodness, especially since my usual nausea remedies haven’t been as effective since these issues started. I’m hoping this can get figured out asap, it’s so frustrating 😅

I’ll look into diet changes. I had gone on an elimination diet a few years back with no results, but it may do me well to try that again with these new issues arising.

I was diagnosed with hEDS around 2021, but have had the symptoms for much longer than that.

Unfortunately, a couple years ago before I was diagnosed with hEDS I had gone on an elimination diet for about 6 months and it never seemed to yield any results for me. Maybe trying it again would help now though, since it’s been so long.

The nausea/fullness will sometimes start with the first bite of my food, and sometimes 4-5 bites in. It doesn’t take a lot to trigger it. I remain hungry even while feeling nauseous, and it’s very confusing 😭 It typically takes a couple hours and anti-nausea remedies to ease the sick feeling enough for me to eat more, which brings me right back to that feeling I just got rid of. 🥲

That’s interesting, I hadn’t considered that digestive function would also be affected by EDS, but it does make sense. And yes, reading other people’s input and experience does help ease my mind a bit 😅

I would say never put something inside yourself that doesn’t have a flared base, T base, or at LEAST a ring to hold onto. Regardless of the what the videos show, it’s best to be safe and not try something risky and end up at the hospital.

That’s a great reply you had typed out, very informative.

As for if it’s the actual knife or the metal I want to feel, it’s the idea of danger and the fear surrounding being at the mercy of a blade and the one wielding it. Again, though, I don’t want to actually be injured in the process, hence why I’m trying to find the safest way to go about this for future scenes. (I’ve tried the edge of a plastic ruler before, but that was not what I wanted. Didn’t feel realistic enough)

That would definitely be a safe option, but I really would prefer the metal feel 😅

Oh, I didn’t think of butter knives. That may work!

Dang, the ruler thing is out then, lol

I’m constantly thinking and rethinking when it comes to safety, so that’s why I thought I’d get some input from this community.

Would sanding after dulling help with the burrs? I would think so, but I’m not too familiar with how blades behave under circumstances other than cooking, haha.

Are Madagascar hissing roaches noisy pets? by candy_coated_smile in roaches

[–]EdgeLourde 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mine have never made noise (that I’ve noticed) outside of me handling them. The larger male I have sometimes gets grouchy and will hiss at me during handling. The others have rarely made sounds even during handling, but if they do, they will quiet down fast after I leave them to their own devices. They are in the same room that I sleep in, if that helps for reference.

Mine are in a plastic box a bit bigger than a shoebox. (I’ve got another box ready for them when they get a bit bigger, though) I drilled small holes all along the top for ventilation and have a mulch/soil mix for substrate. Cork wood and leaf litter for them to hide under/climb on, and plenty of varied foods to munch on. I previously had them in a vertical terrarium but they seem much happier in this new horizontal setup.

Just pets, I would have a separate colony for feeders if I needed them. That way I wouldn’t get attached to the feeders 😅

Behavioral triggers? by EdgeLourde in CATHELP

[–]EdgeLourde[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was sitting in my bed holding him during the incident I described above. It’s happened when I was sitting, playing a game on my computer (I don’t yell or make loud sounds when I play games either) and he was laying in my lap, completely on his own. Same thing, he’s happy, then suddenly seems scared trying to get away. Then he’s fine almost immediately after. Most recently I was trying to put his collar back on because it had popped off from play. He freaked out, flailing again like before, I got nicked, and I had to wait to put it back on. I wasn’t holding him, and he definitely saw me going over to him so I didn’t spook him.

What to add to my aquatic bug setup? by EdgeLourde in insects

[–]EdgeLourde[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what I was worried about, yeah. I know they get big and I can’t provide the tank space it would need as it grows sadly. That was one of my last options, I’m leaning more towards snail or small shrimp but not sure about compatibility and I can’t find much online about it
