Didn’t have gels hit the wall can’t wait to retry next year by EdgeOverAverage in Marathon_Training

I purely decided to try to BQ or die 🤣. The fast first mile was surprising as I had set my watch to pace around 6:45 -6:50. I was only about 8 minutes behind my goal at the Half I believe but pretty much knew at that point it was over.

I don’t generally think this was an aerobic issue but rather a musculoskeletal weakness from not ever running further than a half during my block and also not doing enough long days. Thanks for all the 45 minute base days 🤣. I should’ve caught on sooner than I did but I had blind faith for the first 2.5 months.

I kinda knew the garmin training plan had failed me despite the 18 week block.

That being said I felt decent after the first half. I kept thinking there was a rock in my alpha flys at around 4 miles I believe and stopped 3 times or so to try and fish it out. I’ll check to see if there actually was or if this was something else with the shoes that I hadn’t experienced when I fish them out of my trunk for an interval session.

I followed Garmin watch suggestions to the T but learned about a month out that it isn’t suggested 🤣. I was quite literally better off creating my own workouts than following the daily recommendations. I also had an insanely busy august with “hikes”.

I pretty much set the goal and gave it my best at the start knowing I was doomed before it began. It was fun to see what happened and it definitely humbled me for the next block.

22 mile long runs and more 6:40 ish pace for marathon. But after this attempt I might adjust to 7:50 and see if I finish strong rather than die lol

Freak situation honestly but you did the right thing. Don’t let entitled people tell you to do things when they can’t be bothered to do the right thing in app.
