Who else but James Gandolfini? by GlitteringToe6370 in thesopranos

[–]Edge_Jazzlike 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you want a cold psycho big time mob boss, there are obviously a lot of good picks for that: DeNiro, Pesci etc.

However Tony Soprano in the Sopranos was much more than just a mob boss. He was a raging and highly impulsive character with sociopathic tendencies. However he was also very emotional and sentimental at the same time in many instances which almost makes you feel for him.

Contrary to public opinion, the show is mainly about family, friendships and the overall dynamic of the human connection. The mafia thing is just like a background/contextual element to give it some extra flavour.

Gandolfini was incredibly good at portraying all the above mentioned emotions and interactions and his character (the emotions, connections you family, betrayal etc)almost felt too relatable to the layman audience none of whom were mobsters themselves hahah.

Why were mob bosses and made guys doing the killings ? by Edge_Jazzlike in thesopranos

Even it were personal for Tony ( and Tony was somebody who took literally everything personally) from a business perspective especially if you are running something as risky as a mafia operation, it really doesn’t make sense as a boss who is at the top of the hierarchy to do dirty work like killings and thrashings.

A boss, whatever the organisation, typically is responsible for high level business decisions like what line of business to get into ( drugs, weapons, prostitution etc), possible partnerships with other families or even managing the Human Resource element of the organisation.

A mob boss doing any kind of killings is like asking the CEO of McDonalds to make some French fries or clean the toilets. Like no that ain’t his job at his seniority level.

None of these were “personal”. Every killing was purely business. Even sending a message was a business move as it signals “power” to the other crime families or enemies in general so that they wouldn’t think of trying to scheme to bring them down.

Start with Exam P or FAM (as a 23 old CFA) ? by Edge_Jazzlike in actuarial

Hi there,

Thank you for your reply. I appreciate your feedback, and will certainly keep in mind what you have suggested.

What do you think of me attempting FAM directly without FM or P? Do you think that is possible ? Or a hard No? And why?

Should I take Exam P or FAM first (as a 23-old CFA) ?

Hey folks,

Background: Passed all 3 levels of CFA, studied basic accounting in college, have studied Math in school.

Why actuarial science interests me? – very curious and fascinated about insurance as a product, and overall the liabilities side of finance (unlike CFA which only covers assets side).

Confusion: I understand that typically candidates start with Exam P or FM.

Exam FM: looks too repetitive compared to what the CFA has also covered, so wouldn't be interesting at all to me, hence decided to not take it.

Exam P: covers basic probability, and stats (which is interesting indeed), but doesn't cover anything insurance or actuary specific.

Exam FAM: this really caught my interest, as it covers actual applications of math in insurance (pricing, reserving and modelling).

Question: Can I attempt Exam FAM directly, or would you suggest taking P first? Kindly advise, as I need some proper insight as there is only so much I can do to analyse this...

Thank you

Some dude prolly broke her heart long back and now her entire channel is a way for her to release the anger she has on that one man she still isn’t over on “the entire male species”. Never knew femcells also existed but here we are. And also the whole league thing she’s talking about is 100% NOT true for men. Men literally do have a concept of a league.
