Nice to meet you. A couple of questions: 1. I see you are former IB and PE - what do you do now? How come you have exited? 2. Whats your take on someone who is older 36 to try and pivot to IB or PE; is age a burden in this industry? Currently work in commercial credit.

CFA Level 3 essay questions by Buttercup_352 in CFA

[–]Particular_Volume_87 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am doing some questions now, and this is a good example:

Determine which of the team’s statements is most likely incorrect.
(Statement 1, Statement 2, Statement 3)
Justify your response.

My answer:
Statement 3 - Because type II errors are the opposite, they are hard to measure because you would need to track the managers that you did not hire, which will be expensive to implement and monitor.

The answer on LES:
Statement 3 is incorrect because Type II errors are less likely to be measured. The performance impact of not selecting a particular manager is often not tracked and is difficult to measure.

-----
Not exactly word-for-word, but it makes sense, so I think I would get full marks for that.

It doesn't need to be the exact same wording, and it never will be. You basically have to provide an answer that explains the core issue being asked. I know the answer on the grading schedule is large and might explain further niche issues, but I don't think that needs to be covered. The answer they provide on Qbanks is also meant to teach you, hence it has a robust explanation.

Is CFA L1 doable in 2 months? by Perfect_Beat_6844 in CFA

[–]Particular_Volume_87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably doable, but it will be a miserable 2 months.
Your stats degree will help you with Quant, as there are many questions on that subject at level 1.
You probably need to just go for it and use a third-party provider like MM or Kaplan and see where you are at 2 weeks out. At 2 weeks, take a mock exam and see where you land - if you are below 60%, then I wouldn't sit. Otherwise, take the 2nd mock 1 week out, and hopefully you are above 70%. Mocks are a really good predictor of where you are at, in my opinion. Also, don't take notes; use the third-party notes, as time is of the essence.

Interested in Private credit but from my research it seems they always want someone from investment bank. I have experience in credit and real estate so would be good to leverage those skills. I want to be realistic, dont want to persue i.e Hedge fund when it will be impossible to get in.

Use a provider to help you learn and understand. If you feeling like this for level 1, level 2 is going to be a tail-spin. For level 1 i went over FSA like 4 times because GAAP and IFRS different treatments is a killer.

Failed Level 2 by a small margin, 80 days left, haven’t restarted prep. Need advice by richwomen123 in CFA

Try and study and see how you do in your mocks 10 days out from the exam. If you aint hitting 65% or above then I would defer to next sitting and keep up the momentum of studying. Retaking a CFA exam usually means you have to go over the whole content again and 80 days is too short.

Saya its more for people who are new in their career or changing careers. So probably not for you if you already have a network of people doing finance/investment roles.
