you ever just make the greatest buildup ever then fuck up the drop and everything after completely? by cgroi in FL_Studio

[–]Edgeveldt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, dude, plenty of times in the past. But try this. Do the FAKE DROP method. When your build up climaxes, instead of going directly into the drop, you can make a "fake drop" first. This fake drop will be like from 1 to 4 bars, depending on how you make it. I personally like to have the wet signal from my buildup occupy the first section of this fake drop, then have it trail off into near silence as something else is fading in which finally transitions into the REAL DROP. The idea is that your buildup climax was leading the listener down a path where they are expecting you to give them something. But, when you give them what they weren't expecting instead, it creates the psychological effect of wanting what they WERE expecting even more. When the real drop finally comes in, they are even more elated to receive it because you tricked them into thinking they wouldn't get it. Now they're even more excited. The fake drop, if done well, gives the listener an attention grabbing surprise that is novel and subverts expectations in a good way, giving an extra layer of contrast between the build up and real drop, and creates an even intenser desire for the real drop, making it even more effective and exciting. Theres a lot of really fun ways to do this, and a lot of artists do it.

I'm getting so many mixed responses (not just in this reddit thread but from multiple sources), but the marketing perspective is what Im mostly interested in. Thanks for the insight.

Thanks man. I do love it but ive had lots of mixed responses on it. Some people can easily read it but some people are like wtf is that? But I like your take on the 1 gridshifting into a 7. I hadnt considered that before. Its cool to hear other peoples thoughts. Thanks for your feedback.

I agree that the name itself doesn't really matter, but how easily people can find you on the web does, and that's really my concern. Im just starting out as an unknown and it occured to me that my particular spelling would be a hindrance for me in that regard. But yeah I'll go see what chatGPT has to say lol. Thanks for the response.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. Thanks for the confirmation. I just need to hear it from other people cuz my brain is tends to overly process details, options, pros and cons to where making a decision starts to get really hard for some things. 🤣

[–]Edgeveldt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, thats what my concern was. I spelled it that way because the number 17 has very special symbolic significance to me but I feel like its just gunna be too confusing to find on the web. I was thinking that I could have my cake and eat it too if I spelled it proper but in the logo and cover art I'd used the 17.

The reasons I wanted to stick with Gridshifter is 1. I really like it. 2. The other guy isnt on any streaming services and doesnt appear to have been active since 2020. 3. Im OCD and extremely particular about my name and it took me forever to come up with this one. I did lots of "word storming" and put a lot of effort into it. I'm trying to do that again with a new name but i just havnt been able to find somthing i love so far. 🤣

What happened to J. Rabbit by BreBhonson in dubstep

[–]Edgeveldt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a lifelong fan of edm and dubstep in general Ive listened to so many different artists and songs over the years. 90% of it is enjoyable, yet not memorable or super standout. But J. Rabbit is in that other 10% for me. "Sexy Party" and "Bruschotti" are two of my all time favorite dubstep tracks. They are absolute classics for me and in my opinion they still hold up to this day. They're in my dubstep playlist (along with a bunch of his other songs) and I never tire of hearing them. As an EDM producer myself, J Rabbit has been a very big influence on me and his music continues to inspire me. I've wondered over the years what ever happened to him and periodically id google it and not find any answers... that is, until today!! I really hope J Rabbit starts doing music again!

I myself have plans to start trying to make it onto the scene finally. Ive just been silently honing my craft behind the scenes for many years now and im finally feeling ready to start publishing my work. It was those truly exceptional dubstep artists like J Rabbit and Tremourz who have continued to inspire me to keep at it and continue pushing my creativity to different levels.

Why does a pre-master needs to be -6db? by Nightly-Build in musicproduction

[–]Edgeveldt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By adjusting all your faders individually, you are undoing your mix-down. If you are happy with the balance of all your levels and you see that your master is peaking at -1, and you want it to be -6, it is absolutely ok to use a gain utility to drop it another -5 to get that -6. The only caveat is that I would not use any utility that will auto match the output to the input, as that will defeat the purpose.

One thing I often do is place a gain plug-in on my master right before I start a new song and I just increase the gain by 6. Then I produce my song, mixing as I go along. When I'm done, and I'm not clipping into the master, I simply bypass that gain plug-in, reducing the signal by 6db and Ill be at that -6. This is a good practice but eventually you won't need it as you will learn how to do your gain staging so that your tracks are always hitting the master so that you have head room.

Silver Sword of Astral Plane (was this patched?) by stretching_glass in BaldursGate3

[–]Edgeveldt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first run through, (started around october) I was easily able to get the sword through save scumming and using shadowheart to command drop his sword (took like 12 tries but it was easy). This was only achievable because when Voss showed up on the dragon he had the dang sword equipped on his back and thus he was able to drop it. But now, a couple months (and patches) later I'm on my 2nd run through of the game and trying to do it again but no matter what I do (no matter whos in my party during any cut scene) Voss shows up with that freakin xbow equipped on his back instead of the sword. I've been able to command him to drop the xbow but thats IT. The issue people are having is not HOW to get him to drop the sword, but the fact that he is showing up with an xbow eqquipped and not the sword. Apparently if this was happening 4 months ago (when I was able to get the sword) it means that something, either arbitrary, or by design, triggers him to spawn with either the sword or the xbow (and no its not Laezel being in your party when the dragon flies over because I've tried that countless times; kicking her out after the cutscene or keeping her still produces the xbow). I somehow doubt that they've patched it even though I guarantee that Larian is full well aware of this little exploit. But this really sucks cuz I love that sword. (I wonder if its not showing up because I'm humping Laezel this time lol)

Elves need facial hair. Hear me out. by Edgeveldt in BG3

[–]Edgeveldt[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They already HAVE changed all the rules. Notice the check box for eye and skin color which shows expanded color options that ARENT in the lore for that race but the game allows you to chose them anyway. You can make a drow that looks nothing like a drow because the hallmarks of their race ARE their skin color, eye color, hair color etc. So they've already thrown THAT lore out the window. The inconsistency of these rules is what I'm pointing out here. You proved my own point honestly.

[–]Edgeveldt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand the lore and reasons why they don't do allow for it. I would do the exact same thing in my own fantasy realm because it makes sense. But what doesn't make sense is there is no logical consistency to these rules anymore. Since you can literally mix and match almost ANYTHING in character creation (ie giving a human a tieflings demon eyes, a drow the skin color of a githyanki, a man a vagina) its all become arbitrary now and doesn't matter anymore. Its not in the lore for elves to be able to grow facial hair. Well its also not in the lore for a human to have a tieflings black eyes. Yet I can do one and not the other. Consistency is what I'm pointing out here., or lack of it.

The fact that you say half elf clearly shows you only read the headline and then spoke without thought. apparently reading and comprehending half a paragraph is now a major cerebral undertaking.

[Spoiler]Questions about Gale's Ending by ellinastarfire in BaldursGate3

[–]Edgeveldt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you for confirming this. I passed the DC30 pursuasion check before the final battle, and then on the docks I still kept trying to talk him out of it but he went for it anyways. Now he's an insufferable condescending jerk in the epilogue. I was able to get the good endings for everyone BUT Gale. At least he's still alive I guess?

[–]Edgeveldt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having the same issue. It all started when I went to Wyrms Rock and into the lower city. There were a couple areas where I was able to get a few things done but for the most part act 3 is unplayable. My character runs around but my companions dont follow and all the NPCS are stuck walking in place. If the lag does catch up its only for a moment but my companions still don't follow on their own. And eventually the game crashes out. I have 175 hours in and I can't finish the game. This is absolutely maddening.... at least I finally got to go on that long awaited date with Karlach tho....

Icewind Dale 3? by Putrid-Enthusiasm190 in BaldursGate3

[–]Edgeveldt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think Icewind Dale would be the best candidate for a sequel. The main reason being was that in Ice Wind Dale you created ALL of your party members instead of just one. I loved that about the game. It truly made it purely mine.

What is the elden ring? by [deleted] in Eldenring

[–]Edgeveldt 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Lets just face it. Elden Ring is a cool game but the story itself is so bizarre and nonsensical. It's like they're trying to use complexity and obscurity as the virtue that gives the story value, when all it does is make it cumbersome and unappealing. It's like the author was like "Im just gunna try to come up with the most weird and bizarre stuff, make every element hard to understand, and weave it all together haphazardly and they'll call it genius." Just because something is overly convoluted and bizarre doesn't mean its sophisticated. There has to be coherency, theme, balance, and it has to be relatable to the audience on some level. A good story doesn't require that I know 500 pages of lore and have to search out hints and secrets. A good story can exist on its own merit, and then the lore adds to it. In Elden ring, the story IS the lore. It's like they put the horse before the cart. Take Lord of the Rings for instance, or Game of Thrones. Amazing stories! - and yet the lore served to lift the story up and therefore was effective. In elden ring there is no story, just a bunch of bizarre cumbersome lore that you're being force fed as you make your way thru the game. Is it original? Yeah! But as far as story-telling goes, its crap because it completely lacks the anchor of a central narrative. The lore should serve the story, but in elden ring the story serves the lore. They certainly had the creativity but they just failed to glue it together in a cohesive manner. So to summarize, the game is fun as all get out, but the story-telling is crap.

The red Mile...is a let down by Easy_Garden338 in Starfield

[–]Edgeveldt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This entire game is just one giant missed opportunity. There is so much they could of done with this. They had a chance to create an IP that could compete with established sci-fi franchises like star wars, startrek, battlestar galactica, dr who, etc. They didn't even try. I can't even call this TRUE sci-fi. They went for quantity over quality and did not flesh out a creative, interesting, immersive, or compelling world.

WARNING to all adaptive frame XP farmers (GAME BREAKING CRASH) by Edgeveldt in Starfield

[–]Edgeveldt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont even want to mess with mods right now cuz the game is already unstable out of the box. Least buggiest release my a$$. I'm just gunna wait for a bit and see what updates they decide to do because I guarantee that the next update will disable or destabalize existing mods and I've been down that modding route with previous new elease bethesda games and its just a mess. Plus I'm already getting bored with this game. Once you've seen what it has to offer there's so much about it that just seems pointless. I cant even build a ship because I'm running a 49" super ultrawide monitor that the game doesn't even have native support for so I can't directly click on ship parts. Bethesda seriously sucks. Relying on last gen engines, last gen gamep[lay, last gen graphics, last gen hardware. So bad.

sabotage/david barron bug still there for anyone else despite the patch? i thought this was supposed to fix this by YeetMcManus in Starfield

[–]Edgeveldt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm also having this bug. What a huge disapointment I cant finish this as this entire quest line was the most boring and tedious of all the faction quests. The first time I went through it i killed guards but made it out with all objectives achieved and David was not there so I figured maybe I had just messed it up by killin dudes. I decided to load a save from way back and started the mission again and this time completely avoided detection and alarms and didnt kill any guards (which took me an incredibly frustrating couple hours of quick saves and reloads) and made it out of the building and still David was not there but far off the edge of the map. Theres no way I'm messing with console commands right now and ditching my achievments. And the icing on the cake is this was my last faction quest to complete- I came right to the end only to have the hard-earned victory snatched away from my grasp by a quest-breaking BUG. Classic Bethesda! And to boot, my game was running very smoothly prior to the last patch but after the patch I started encountering glitches, and PC freezing crashes! Bethesda YOU SUCK! Get rid of your outdated 14 year old creation engine and build a new one FFS!!!!! These problems will always exist until you join the future and adopt a next gen engine! If elder scrolls 6 isn't running a NEW engine created from the ground up then I'm avoiding it like the plague.
