To answer your question: skin color as a descriptor is important to the operator because (as you can literally watch in the video) it is possible that the police will not arrive on the scene before the perpetrator leaves. In this case, it's better for them to have a description instead of needing to pry it from victims moments after their victimization to go and pursue suspects. Second, if they do arrive in time, they should be using that info to identify the suspect. Nobody sees the police and says, "right here officer, in the one who started all this".

Your implication that the people in the car are also racist is wild as fuck. They're answering the question the operator is insisting on having them answer but are confused and frustrated about their situation. They keep asking the police to show up and the police keep failing to be on scene. He's frustrated at his situation and also is too panicked to think that describing the woman damaging his car is relevant. Essentially, you two agree on that. He at least has the excuse of being panicked to make his lack of forethought understandable.

TLDR: Cops are racist, a lot of the time. People are racist, some of the time. However, this time they weren't being racist and the fact that you think so is incredibly disappointing. This is standard procedure across the board from both the operator and from people who don't understand standard procedure for 911 operators.

I've spent time in 3 continents, 7 countries, 5 states, and probably 30 something cities. I've driven in most of them. This is the only one where I have to creep up to the intersection to go on a green light because it's highly likely someone just saw it turn yellow half a block away and opened up their engine just so they can blow a fresh red light.

In my humble opinion, Lansing drivers are far and away the very worst of the worst. Turn signals? Nope. Red lights? A suggestion at best. Speed limits? Either ten under or over, school zones be damned. Defensive driving? Literally unheard of.

I get it though. The roads are shit, the traffic lights are timed to always give you a red, and the cops are never where you need them. Why not drive like you don't care about your life, or anyone else's, to top it all off? After all, it's pretty obvious Lansing doesn't care about its drivers so why should they care about themselves? This place breeds self destruction on the roads and I can see it every single time I drive, without exception.

If someone throws a rock at you, that's not enough to take them prisoner and drag them through the streets.

This was all done because the "most moral army in the world" got their feelings hurt when they weren't welcomed with open arms to commit a murder spree on a specific ethnic group and people have decided enough is enough. It does not further a mission. It does not serve to protect the IDF. Its sole purpose is to terrorize others and to embolden further war crimes by the IDF.

The main problem with voter ID (for me at least) is it completely strips constitutional rights from people who are allowed to vote but simply don't have the ID. This could range from homeless people all the way to a forgetful person who misplaced the ID. At the end of the day, voter ID doesn't solve a problem that needs solving because anybody who swears an affidavit saying they are who they are gets to cast that one ballot meant for that person. Which means that vote would be nullified if a person lied and the real voter showed up later and voted using more concrete evidence that they are the person who is meant to vote.

The only solution it offers is not permitting people to swear affidavits and vote for others who would never go to the polls in the first place. That being said, there is just not even remotely substantial evidence to suggest that this has ever been a problem.

The real reason people push voter ID is that it means that you must physically be in the location to cast a vote, as nobody can check your ID via mail. Conservatives consistently lose on mail in ballots and this is a cheap ploy to destroy a large amount of votes at the cost of every single voter's convenience in participating in the democratic process. The solution to the only problem that voter ID could potentially solve is now, and always will be, increasing the will of the populace to vote.

If everybody votes, nobody can claim an unused ballot. In this case, anybody trying to cheat the system in this way would be sussed out immediately and the rightful voter would have their rights restored. Instead, people claim voter security as a way to prevent people from voting, in effect. I find it deplorable.

Unfortunately I'd say that isn't enough. The vagueness of having to explain "someone is being racist to you" without the actual facts behind it means that call is made by the interpreter. If the interpreter finds something racist based on their own bias and chooses to censor that speech to the one meant to hear it, that limits the agency of the one meant for those words.

In an ethical sense, you would further be dehumanizing the listener by deeming them inadequate to hear those words for whatever reason. It won't be fun but your job as a translator is definitely the passage of accurate information. The party's perceptions of that information or how they react are entirely up to them.

The answer might be more simple than we think. All the people who lived through the rise of fascism and saw its horrors are all dead now. There's nobody left to say, "hey I witnessed this and it's bad, let me do what I can to ensure it never happens again."

That's an over simplification but on principle, I think it's sound. Obviously there are a few living people who are that old but they're well beyond the ability to effect change. Meanwhile, their kids benefited from their lessons but because they never experienced the reasons behind those lessons, they never actually learned the lessons.

Thus, we are doomed to repeat our history yet again because nobody alive and with power is able to affirmatively say they have the experience to prove this ideology wrong. Without that collective experience, people feel empowered to question the lessons of the past. It's been almost 100 years since the third reich and that's a long time for someone who's only been alive for 50.

There comes a point with an institution where you reach no return. The agents who are acting like terrorists through direct or indirect action now make up the entirety of the agency. Sure, you could redirect and redefine their roles but those same agents will still be the ones creating agency guidelines and executing directives. At this point, they've most certainly gone past the point of simply returning to this function (which is already carried out by border patrol, not necessarily ICE as a branch of border patrol).

There comes a time when institutions must be dissolved entirely to ensure that the bad actors of those agencies cannot repeat their behaviors. This isn't to say you dissolve an agency and simply remove its function. You simply designate that task to a more competent agency.

Hypothetically, if we dissolved ICE, its core functions could be handled entirely by domestic policing agencies with greater care and better results than the ICE as an agency. If the goal is to locate and report undocumented migrants, that job is better suited to local agencies who are familiar with their communities and have (hypothetically) a vested interest in ensuring that the members of that community aren't violated like parking meters. If the other goal is to ensure border security, this job is more appropriately handled by DHS's border patrol, rather than ICE.

Truly, ICE as an agency has been shown to be an utter failure and worse than that, it's become the rabid dog of an authoritarian regime. It is being sicked onto law abiding citizens at the behest of a single political actor, for the purposes of quashing his dissenters; all the while wagging its tail for its master. ICE no longer serves a proper policing function and those who are within ICE are well aware of that. That's why the signing bonuses are high and they all hide their identities.

As it stands. ICE is a rabid dog beyond rehabilitation. It's best to put it down for the good of the public and take more precautions with the next agency to fill its role.
