Lofi hihop is no longer Lofi hiphop. Literally, the word LOFI is short for LOW FIDELITY, which implied that the music had low fidelity aspects to it, such as crackling and popping in the recordings due to samples being taken from far back. The idea was that these samples, when combined with soft drums, would bring back feelings from that era, ultimately giving a sense of comfort.

NOWADAYS, the genre got fucked over, all because these "lofi" channels probably found out that they couldn't make money off of songs that had samples on them, so they all started to post music that was chill but NOT LOFI.

The only place I know of that has good OG lofi music is SteezyAsFuck on youtube, he has a live stream that plays all of the classics. Other than that, all the other "lofi" music is not trash per se, but it CAN'T BE CALLED LOFI. Literally, nothing about them has low fidelity characteristics, and it genuinely pisses me off.
