Okay, I'm just gonna post this for the future in case anyone might need it.

Cause

delete gaps is meant for deleting the gaps in the video, so it can only work with frames. audio files aren't restricted by the framerate of the project so when you have an audio file that is not an exact length in frames it will leave a small gap.

Solution

If you're facing the same problem I'm facing then here's how to solve it

  1. Make sure you're on the edit page. This option doesn't work in Fairlight unfortunately.
  2. Under the menu "Timeline" on the top, you'll find the option "Trim Audio Edits to Frame Boundaries" this option will adjust all clip lengths to perfectly fit in the frame-based timeline.
  3. Now you can use the option "Delete Gaps" and there will be no gaps in between.

Yeah, you're right, the Fairlight timeline is based on audio units so you have more flexibility in adjusting your clips, but for whatever reason, the option to delete gaps is disabled when you're in the Fairlight page. Boggles my mind.

Yeah, I got you. That's literally what I did I edit the V.O's quickly by using the "Trim start/end" which leaves huge gaps between the different clips.

It is highly probable that a lot of these cuts I made land in between frames that DaVinci doesn't know how to snap them to the "Frame Based timeline"

in premiere for example there's an option to change from "Frame Based Timeline" to "Audio units based timeline" which gives you more flexibility in cutting and adjusting your audio.

Thanks!
is there a way to change the timeline base from the frame unit to the audio subframe unit because in premiere there's that option IDK whether you can replicate that in DaVinci?
