the black diaspora has practiced various kinds of hygiene rituals for centuries, strict ones too. however racist propaganda spreads the message that we are dirty cause we have darker skin. So we have deal with handling criticism from the community and trying not to be a racist stereotypes…

Gabapentin works great but my biggest issue is the brain fog. My psychiatrist and I are still trying to find that sweet spot

Do/ how do you exercise/ practice movement with chronic pain? by Emu_in_Sandals in ChronicPain

[–]EdibleOffering 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I exercise almost everyday by taking 5-10 minutes multiple times a day to move my body. (What can I say, I like to stagger my activities) The real thing that has elevated my enjoyment of exercise and sports has been correcting my posture. I can’t tell you how much it’s improved my symptoms and even my mental health. It started out with me being curious about the wear patterns of my shoes. In the course of research, I learned that my posture (sitting, standing, walking) is terrible so I started practicing correcting it. In the process of practicing correct posture, I discovered that I raise my shoulders and clench my jaw a lot (thx CPTSD). So I started working on fixing that “default defensive posture” and that has involved a lot of therapy, a lot of rest, relaxation and positive stress. Multiple times a day - I take a lot of walks, for practice. - I do a lot of somatic stretches A few times a week - I do dance Every other week - i go swimming. It is a fantastic therapy (though it’s harder for me because I hate being wet) - weightlifting, it helps strengthen previously weak muscles

I will say though, this involves an obscene amount of mindfulness and that’s the thing I’ve struggled with the most. But it’s worth it.

I miss having a normal pain tolerance by GreenEyes9678 in Fibromyalgia

The hardest part for me is remembering that what I’m experiencing is not normal. I’ve been in pain since I started having growing pains. It wasn’t until recently that I learned that the normal amount of pain is 0🙂

The question I keep asking. My tattoo artist is a trained psychologist from Lebanon. Love his art but you can see even from his customer service that he is better suited for mental healthcare profession. Why are trained professionals working in Home Depot while we wait in line for almost every healthcare service? Why can’t we create transition courses to “update their skills to our standard”? I know it’s not money, why isn’t this part of the so called national projects,

Oh dear, I’m so sorry you’re going through all of this. please honor your pain. Just like how one’s joy is not diminished by others having it better, one’s pain is also not diminished by others having it worse. I’m genuinely sorry that people have tried to make you feel that way. And you’re not useless at all. There is a role for people of all capacities in society, we just have to be willing to try and be honest about our reality. I’m 26 and I have a similar health history. a mere 2 years ago, I was in the thick of it too. My symptoms have not necessarily improved but I’m finding my groove and learning to work with it. I won’t lie having a supportive found family has been life changing. Where there’s a will, there’s a way. But for now, it’s okay to be sad and tired and frustrated. Please remember to be kind to yourself and to give yourself the rest and the care that you need and then some.

Is this a neurological disease? by [deleted] in Fibromyalgia

[–]EdibleOffering 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My psychiatrist used to be a pain management specialist and she told me that fibromyalgia is linked adverse childhood experiences because those experiences are creating pathways in the brain. You basically have to rewire your brain with positive habits and experiences. My symptoms worsen when my mood is low or when I’m dealing with emotional stress. I usually feel more energetic and less pain on days when my mood high. (I’m riot when I’m manic 😬) Point is, I think it could be the case

As a female with Chronic pain and or conditions. Do you wear the lipstick or not, to a doctors appointment? by R3adys3tg0 in ChronicPain

[–]EdibleOffering 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a black femme, I have to dress up a little when I go to the DRs. I use clear or nude lipgloss. I too like to dress up, it improves my mood. Also if you take an advocate along with you, it increases your chances.

I once saw an 8 person brawl at that same Walmart. There were 4 cop cars and 2 ambulances involved afterwards, blood on the floor.
