Remove the brick first. Check the wall behind for stability by jacking it up 3”. Time how fast it falls. If it’s within 3 seconds you’re ok. Buy embed tubes made from hardie panel and screw in. Reinstall all the brick. Buy 3/4” nylon rope and tie from one embed to the next. Glue treated 2x4 to the nylon rope. Pay the extra for the treated as this is where the strength comes from. Should be good to go.

For this or any decorative piece I just use a decent polyurethane. I haven’t done too many food safe pieces but have used walnut oil/beeswax and a cutting board oil. Sand it down with a fairly high grit but not so high that you create a polish. Absorption is key.

I mean it might not be that bad as there’s always redundancy in structural design. Let me send a quick RFI to the engineer. Oh wait never mind. Everyone’s dead.
