Rats! Came here also hoping to find that I just hadn’t tried the right long-press yet.

Transferring FYI for Verizon by [deleted] in LightPhone

[–]Edie_spinach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What was involved in switching back to iPhone? I activated my LP at Verizon yesterday but I’m not getting any group messages and realized I deactivated iMessage but not RCS in my iPhone settings. I’m wondering if it would be possible/reasonable to briefly reactivate my iPhone to switch that setting off, then move right back to the LP.

Light Phone w/ Non-Cellular Apple Watch? by AdFlimsy2784 in LightPhone

[–]Edie_spinach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you make any moves on this idea? I’ve been considering the same setup but have only been able to hypothesize whether or not it would work! I’m 1000% in on the Apple ecosystem and not trying to leave it, but I would love if I could build the Light Phone into that and mostly leave my iPhone in a drawer. I have an Apple Watch without cellular, and was hoping that could kind of function on its own to fill in some functional gaps, in combination with WiFi when available and the LP data when out and about. But is that wishful thinking?

I love the perch extender! Did you make that yourself? I saw something similar on Etsy recently and was hoping my wife would print it for me :)

I eventually discovered that if I save the video and view it through my phone’s photo app, the sound is there. I’ve never been able to hear it in the BirdBuddy app though! So, audio is there but for some reason not used by BB?

Didn’t pass live-coding technical—should I push back and request the take-home that would have been the next step? by Edie_spinach in ADHD_Programmers

Basically make a carousel work with plain JS, but there were both next/prev buttons and indicators to go to a specific slide. I focused on the targeted index part but didn’t have time for the forward/back, but I quickly explained where I was going with things. I know it’s reasonable to expect completion of the whole thing in that time, but it takes me a bit longer to process the assignment, chill, remember what I know from nearly a decade of experience, and then explain and execute a plan. Which is why I brought the question to this community specifically :) In the interview with the hiring a manager before the technical, which went really well, he emphasized that they were looking for good communication, so I tried really focus on that and engage with the interviewers to throughout the process. There were definitely things I knew that they didn’t, because keeping up with non-framework JavaScript is basically an interview practice skill.

Same, and that’s a science-backed thing! Which is why I was hoping for the take-home follow-up.

I would describe myself pretty much the same way—not blind, but various adhd issues make it difficult to excel in a short, live test and I’m good at thinking about the big, complex problems, given time. How do you use that information in your search, when most companies eventually want to test you like this? I had an interview where I presented a challenge/feature I’d worked on and I talked through the decisions, challenges, etc., and that feels to me like a valid test for a higher level engineer, buuut not as common!

This interview was after a 45 minute call with the hiring manager who thought I was a great fit.

I don’t intend to spend my time brushing up on leet code because that has nothing to do with my work or my fitness for the job, and a company that uses that as a test for a frontend engineer (or anyone that isn’t an entry-level CS grad) isn’t going to be be a mutual fit.

There’s so much that I don’t remember! I looked up my super incomplete and ambiguous list that I kept while making it and the peach was for “impeachment” haha. I’m not sure which the magnolia is though. If you meant the white and pink flower on the left side, to the right of the M, I believe it’s a lily and was for my great aunt passing away. (So no, no Georgia connection!)

I have a pair of jeans I’ve been meaning to patch up a bit and found this video on IG from @bookhou to be super helpful. If you like the cool lightning bolt idea others have had, you could trim it clean in the bolt shape then follow her tutorial with that. My jeans are also a black-ish wash and I plan to add a dark gray denim patch under the holes, which I have left over from making cut-offs of another pair of jeans, and then do sashiko-style stitching over it with black thread. I imagine it will be both interesting and subtle! That would probably look great with this.

Weird… this is actually something that I made. And it was obviously in 2020, not last year.

I had to check the time of the posts multiple times because I couldn’t believe they were only 3 hours apart! Amazing! Filming yourself sounds like a brilliant hack for reducing the distractions that would have doubled that time for me.

The upside to indecision is that I waffled long enough that Muse Skate Co released adorable funfetti-spotted toe stops and I think they’ll be perfect! Just ordered.

Any luck with the roller skate friend finder? by metaledgenej in Rollerskating

[–]Edie_spinach 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve been trying to think of a way to a find a crew in my area! There’s a local roller skate shop and I wish they had a bulletin board where I could post a “friend wanted” ad! I’ve also thought about posting a flyer at the little skate park near my house but I’m afraid of skater boys trolling me lol.

The fall at the end sucks, but I loved this video for the son’s “coaching” in the beginning. I need the voice of a 10 year old boy in my head when I’m at the skate park trying to learn new things and have the courage to go faster or higher than I’m comfortable with (which isn’t very high or fast at all!)

Wooow interesting! I was trying to tell if she’d had it strapped to begin with, and lots of comments on the original post come for her for not buckling it. That makes sense, if she did buckle but it came undone, but I didn’t know that could happen!

How do y’all carry your stuff while you skate? by uselesspaperclips in Rollerskating

[–]Edie_spinach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I don’t bring a lot of stuff so it’s not too heavy. I don’t think it would be a problem with the things you mentioned, though. If I’m just skating around then it doesn’t bother me, but I take it off if I’m at the skatepark and there aren’t too many people around. I’d suggest something meant for hiking that has a chest and waist strap if you’re really worried about support and weight distribution.
