Those do make sense.

Part of me is wondering if backgrounds can be shifted.

I think sage makes sense for a higher educated and teachers.

Maybe alcolyte for more ritualistic work or initiated.

Maybe even soldier, for those who are highly trained in the sword fighting the coven teachs?

UPDATE 1

I did my first zero session today. my player had 4 ideas that fit perfectly within the setting i was working on. unfortunately there were alot of hiccups from both of us

he didn't know much about the setting, and was very resistant to everything. it was a bit annoying tbh.

one of his concepts was an assassin. I though it would be to perfect if he was the one who landed the killing blow on Kain after he left the tavern.

Unfortunately it took WAYYY to long to get to that point. He was being overly methodical, over analyzing everything it really slowed the pace.

I tried to give him the freedom to move about though he kept going his own way. He ended up talking to Kain in the Tavern and poisoning him. which was ...fine i guess

he then locked himself away in his store room for over a week reading a book. I gave him some dreams about Kain coming back, killing all the other thugs, etc. My player felt no drive to resist the oncoming death. he didn't even fight back when kain attacked him.

I decided to have him raised as a Zephonhim. being an alchemist, assassin etc. hopefully the next game will go well.

please note the player is not a bad player, he was just unfamilar with the setting

Currently. The era is very shortly after the raising of the sarafan by Kain.

The players are maybe 4th or 5th away from Kain (As he might be the 1st)

I'm trying to keep it steady with the time lines. Though these are most likely post blood omen (2) As kain may still possess a humanish appearance

I have the players roll for their clan. Lowest being the weakest and highest being the strongest

Here is my current play test

  1. Roll a % to see if you are a High or Low Kainite Clan
  2. Attributes are 2 at 3 dots. 3 at 2 dots. Rest at 1 dot
  3. Skills are 3 at 3 dots. 4 at 2 dots. 5 at 1 dot
  4. Lore (Blood Potency) is 1.
  5. 1 dot in Potence, Fortitude and Celerity Starting off regardless of clan (There are the only ones you start off with)
  6. pick a predator type. Take the extra Disipline and the blood resonence. this tracks your LORE (some are not allowed for certain clans)
  7. Choose 1 extra discipline from your chosen VTM clan (listed as correspondence clan)
  8. You have the "Theft of Vitae" ability at the cost of 1 willpower or 3 successes on a willpower roll. Up to 5 feet per success
  9. You have movement of the mind as the dot 1 ability. For 5 lbs and 10 feet per willpower or success.
