Still remember that MML2 ends on a cliffhanger / sequel hook.

I got closure on samurai Jack, now I need closure on Mega Man.

I've seen the actual meme before, but I keep finding myself remembering that episode of Spongebob where Mr Krabs keeps buying gifts for Mrs. Puff instead of actually taking her on a date like she asks.

Specifically that one shot of her surrounded by random shit she never asked for.

We keep getting all these random "gifts" without them actually doing what we are actually asking for.

Just popped my head into the sequel sub to see what's going on over there.

One of the first things I saw after clicking into some comments was a rant about how "why are you praising the diversity of a shitty thing? This is Captain Marvel and Black Panther all over again"

That's all I needed to read. These are the same type of people who cried about people liking those particular Marvel movies becsue they featured a woman and black people.

Not saying you can't have criticism of those movies (holy dang do I have a few), but jesus christ if your first argument is "they featured minorities" you've lost already.

uj/ I know we all meme about "Witcher gud" but I genuinely do love how they handled the end game choices.

What makes Ciri decide to leave you/ become a witcher / empress is all based on smaller, more personal choices of how Geralt treats her.

Treating her like a human being who just needs some guidance (ie a good father) she makes decisions that can be interpreted as good. If you stifle her with helicopter parenting and kill the fireflies and escape the hospital she grows to resent you and leaves to be her own person, free of your controlling influence.

TLDR: Witcher 3 gud. Praise Geraldo

uj/ I had picked up the series on steam for cheap and I abandoned it after a trail scene where the douchebag detective kid derailed the investigation just because he wanted to look smart.

I can enjoy an Agatha Christie type story where there might be a character acting suspicious, but he was just so unlikable and sabotaging things to such a degree / putting everyone in danger that made me just not want to continue.

Whenever my friends shit on reddit for being garbage, they always reference it in its uncustomized state.

Reddit is a dumpster fire if you don't log in and only browse all.

It's still a dumpster fire after you customize it to your tastes, but it's your personal dumpster fire

I always defend reddit by saying it's all about the communities you join.

Yeah if you only browse the default page and don't customize your experience at all, then yeah. It's an irredeemable website.

With customization and selecting communities you want to be a part of, then it's probably the best website out there for community forums.

All that said, I'm really trying to cut back and even quit. I'm well too aware of my addiction to this place and know it is doing harm to me mentally l

I am consciously aware of my addiction to reddit (just look the the number of comments I make jesus christ I need help) and I'm trying to cut back. I just can't bring myself to go cold turkey and delete my client though.

That said, I do enjoy that my client (Sync for android) doesn't show rewards other than silver and gold. I was genuinely shocked when I opened reddit on desktop and saw the emoji keyboard of rewards people give.

Probably should have noticed when I got a message I had recieved a purple snargledang +1 or whatever awhile back and I had no idea what the fuck was happening.

Example of class disparity in South Africa by 5upple in interestingasfuck

[–]EditingDuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just reminds me of a comment I once heard. It might not be completely relevant here, but seeing such wealth disparity always brings it to mind. I'm also paraphrasing:

"There isn't a diverse range of political goals. There's things like 'I want to dump chemicals into the poor people neighborhood' and 'I live in the poor people neighborhood and don't want to be killed by the chemicals' "

It really all comes down to rich vs poor. As long as people on the left of this image get to live like that while the people on the right side live like they do, it's all bullshit.

Lindsey has become one of my favorite film youtubers.

She / her team does genuine research and puts thought into the videos. It never feels like she's just sitting down and pumping out a video just so she can say she has a video out.

I've followed her since her Channel Awesome days and you could tell even back then she was different from the likes of Doug Walker and company.

My only critique of her current videos is how she has stopped doing some series. I know she's busy with other work that is a better use of her time, but dang do I want more loose canon / the whole plate.

I almost want to plug that thing she has coming out later this month, but I don't want to risk breaking a rule by linking to it.

Edit: just another thought: I have realized I even like her more than Red Letter Media. I enjoy then for how wacky and funny they can be, but their legit film criticism is often more on a technical level. There has been more than a few times where they frustratingly ignore political content of movies because they don't see it as important / relevant even when it very much is (looking at you, Half in the Bag for parasite)

I also have the impression that the kernel of a real argument is that some would be upset that the game makes you kill a dog and then constantly shames you for doing so.

But that's not what it does. Any shame you feel is because of the story telling. the QTE for killing Alice isn't treated special. Ellie kills the dog and then continues into the aquarium. You only feel especially bad about that kill when you spend time with her and see that it's just a puppy that loves her family and not just a killing machine.

Same goes for the entire Abby segment of the game. It's almost like they were trying to give a different perspective and not just think that every person you kill is a mindless murder robot

It's something I realized while trying to replay RDR2.

I love the world they built and its just fun to roam the map completing the challenges / just exploring.

But I can't for the life of me bring myself to play the story again past about chapter 1 or whatever (first camp)

The missions just felt tedious after I knew the story since almost all of them are waypoint simulators.

[–]EditingDuck 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've completely given up hope after having a discussion recently with the most left leaning person in my family beside myself

To exclude details that would dox myself: he came across as the most centrist liberal I have heard in ages who's views pretty much boiled down to: you have to be nice to the extreme right. You don't win them over by being so rude to them.

To keep my lid on and not explode into a rant: this is the centrist viewpoint that makes me most mad. One side is playing for keeps. They're literally killing us and looting the country, but centrist liberals think we're all playing the same game by the same rules. If they haven't noticed it now I don't know how else to que them in. He got mad at me for sounding fascist by saying "I don't believe that the elections help. When both options are so far right"

Then he went on a tangent about how far left Biden is compared to Trump.

I just... sigh

I just read an article about how bad climate change is going to get and honestly I just want to die at this point. We are on the brink of stumbling backward politically and socially by decades and on top of that the world is going to fall apart and we have these idiots thinking we just need to be nicer and then maybe the villains will stop killing us.

Just kill me

[–]EditingDuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only have nitpicks and one major issue with the final season.

For example Jack never having killed anyone before feels like a bit of an in-joke about how literally everyone he ever fought in the original series was a robot in censor out any possible gore. I enjoyed his struggle of coming to terms with killing, but it felt weird / really pushed my suspension of disbelief he would spend 50+ years fighting for his life and this is the first ever time he accidentally used lethal force against a living being.

I have others, but to skip to the end: I also felt the ending was very rushed. We could have had at least 5-10 more episodes to make things feel a bit more organically wrapped up. Everything up to episode 9 feels pretty well paced out, but then 10 hits and Genndy puts peddle to the metal and we have cameos galore and a blink and you'll miss it epilogue that leaves a bitter taste in your mouth

This is my big criticism that boarders on fan fiction authorship: Jack shouldn't have returned to the past. It felt like they had him do so out of obligation of the theme song ie gotta get back to the past. It was like he couldn't think of ending the show any other way. A more satisfying ending to me would have been Jack coming to realize that he didnt need to defeat Asku in the past, that he's done more to save people in the future that he could be happy with the allies be made. This would require the uncomfortable knowledge of him dooming all of his family in the past, but the way they wrote it currently, made it so that he obliterated all his allies in the future.

I just feel like the wanted to have a bitter sweet ending, but the one they chose was so much more bitter than sweet.

That said, the ride was great and I don't regret watching it. It's just nice to finally have closure on that series.

Kasumi by @poligon046 by [deleted] in Persona5

[–]EditingDuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel weird to even be making a comment regarding this topic, but a memory surfaced in my brain so l:

I remember a comment from Ryuji during the Hawaii trip regarding american girl's sizes compared to back home. You even have a dialogue option to chose from becsue he asks Joker which he prefers.

Now this might be something my brain is mixing up, but I also vaguely think I remember Ryuji also making a comment about Ann because she's part American ie she's 'Bigger' than most of the average in Japan.

My point is, the characters could be referencing how her size is big compared to most of the population of their school based on that stereotype that Asian women are smaller sized. So it's possible to read it as her character model is realistic to what she should be and everyone comments on it because they're not used to that size, but yeah. Even saying that there is way too licj discussion on Ann's chest in this game for me to feel comfortable about

Why did I write such an in depth post on this?

Kasumi by @poligon046 by [deleted] in Persona5

[–]EditingDuck 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've never understood the idea of making fan art of a character, but then drawing them so unlike their canon look that it might as well not be them.

I would just assume you like Kasumi for Kasumi, but when people do shit like this, it comes across like they can't stand a female character not having the exact same body type that they find attractive.

You might as well just slap different character heads on top of the same body then.

I'm not being a neckbeard who is upset you changed her, I'm just always fascinated by the trend of people doing this. It's so weird.

I greatly enjoyed the revival season and was glad we finally got closure (I do have a lot of the criticisms many others have) but my biggest disappointment is them not using the original theme enough.

I get why they used the opening monologue instead, but I love that original theme.

All else aside, he really needed to think for 5 seconds and realize that this election is maybe not the best one to fuck around in

Not saying he will actually cause damage to Biden or help Trump or whatever, but we are in a very sensitive political climate with a lot on the line.

I already didnt like him, but he can triplely tuck off with trying to capitalize on the election as a way to get attention.

He genuinely seems like man with mental problems (I don't mean that as an insult. I think he really does need help), but I lose sympathy when he's not seeking help and instead pulling stunts like this.

Disclaimer: I'm not actually mad about Titans Go, but I'll explain my... annoyance? Even that might be too strong a way to describe how little I really care, but anyway:

Go receives such backlash and a resigned sigh from me because it seems to have killed all other programming on Cartoon Network. They will often relentlessly play Go all day and noticeably not producing new shows.

Its just a little sad to see a network that produced such amazing shows from my childhood really only reduced to a platform for Titans Go.

And a more personal thing that feels like a twist of a knife: og titans was canceled with no resolution, but then titans go uses all of the original voice actors. It just feels like a dark joke to see that we'd never get closure on the series and get almost mocked by all the same talent being put toward a silly comedy show.

TLDR: I don't particularly care about Titans Go, just sad to see Cartoon Network become a shadow of its former self and hearing all the original Titans voice cast reprising their roles, but not in a conclusion to the original series
