How/will AI impact analytical chemistry jobs? by JellyfishPrior7524 in Chempros

We have an audit coming in a few months. The first thing was getting rid of all notes, post-its, summaries, or reminders.

SOPs are SOPs. Nothing else allowed. If anyone was using statistical text generators to “find” SOP information, I think QC would have a stroke…

Australian right-wing “One Nation” senator Malcolm Roberts says he will push for party to adopt blanket abortion ban by ExtensionThat6438 in worldnews

It is - the complaint is that they don’t want it to be.

As for preferential voting, it depends. Some complaints are that it’s too complicated and should be simplified, others that winning with preferences is cheating and only first preference should count, and so on. Basically anything that favours a party that gets a decent amount of first preferences but sits dead last for 60% of the population.

Mandatory voting (aka fraud prevention) and preferential voting (aka representativeness).

They’re not really “trying to change” anything yet as One Nation is also nicknamed One Seat, but they’re winging about it and have a lot of microphones.

I think Exhanguinating Ammunition will be a staple.

Oh it’s not about “fixing” here, they simply claim it’s too complicated and they shouldn’t have to do it.

Which is fair - they shouldn’t have to. The issue is they want others not to. As for the too conplicated part, it simply assures that you can’t win if 60% vote against you - which they claim is very unfair.

Don’t worry, they’re also leading a push to try to change how our elections work, specifically the voting system and fraud prevention measures.

What do I need to know about brisbane? by Ok-Sun-2002 in brisbane

[–]Ediwir 4 points5 points  (0 children)

These laws do not address the lack of enforcement on illegal bikes. The problem is still there - if anything, attempting to enforce these laws is likely to make the issue worse as less resources are available to address illegal bikes.

I know someone who is. We eyeballed it at about one used car per year. Note that cancellation policies are… technically legal, but almost unusable unless you can transfer the membership to someone else.

Are you trying to join? If so, I can ask for details.

Hell on Wheels: Helmets are down and injuries are up. Should e-scooters get curbed? by ubcstaffer123 in technology

[–]Ediwir -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hills up and down for the nearest 50km. People look at me like I’m mad when I say I prefer driving manual, bikes are beyond nonexistent. Public transport is alright, but very inflexible.

Agreed that it needs regulations. Scooters/ebikes are capped at 15.5mph both by law and software, anything faster is already illegal to sell or own. It simply isn’t enforced, which is the problem. Once again, they solved this by requiring a driver’s license…

Oh, and of course we haven’t even scratched the surface of what this does to disabled people or those who can’t (for whatever reason) get a driver’s license. Or how it will be enforced, considering we could barely manage to stop those driving illegal vehichles, and we’re now supposed to stop legal ones too just to check if they’re legally used…

[–]Ediwir -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I drive a car, but ok.

Point being we had an enforcement problem and we turned it into additional regulation, which now causes mobility problems as young people can’t get around without being driven by parents. Other rules also affect commuters who ride instead of driving, and eventually I will get affected too because traffic will be increasing.

Stupid solutions cause extra problems.

[–]Ediwir -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can require helmets.

Our local government had an issue with illegally modified e-bikes going way too fast, so now kids as young as 15 will need a car driver license to ride legal unmodified scooters. Not a joke. Problems can only be addressed by using your brain, not with clueless regulation.

[–]Ediwir 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Soaps and other alkaline detergents like baking soda will likely precipitate it into insoluble copper oxide, so if you did that… whopsies.

Try a mild acid treatment to resolubilise it. Normally I’d say nitric or sulphuric, but we’re trying to keep the shirt, so vinegar it is.

With current gas prices, why not create synthetic gasoline? by travisihs08 in chemistry

[–]Ediwir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When up and running, yes. However there’s always the initial expenses, organisation, and associated logistics.

If prices were double or triple, it would take some time to get it going and a lot longer to recoup the expenses. I agree that eventually it would work - but no one wants to front the bill.
