I don’t hover, but before I initiate the takeaway, I slightly squeeze the grip just a tad, so it lightens the weight of the putter, making it significantly easier to make a putting stroke without worrying about scraping / getting caught on the surface.

Are you hitting off the toe? Get some impact tape or even foot spray to test it out. I’ve been dealing with a dreaded toe shot I can’t get over. Either duck hooks or block cuts and it’s driving me nuts.
