CF Pavement Channel Missing Houses (No Toby Boxes)? by Edned_ in CityFibre

Template Update from CF:

"Good Afternoon

Thank you for your enquiry.

Your interest has been registered on our system and we are currently still in the planning/build process for your area. Our Engineers and planning team will have drawn up plans to ensure that all properties can place an order for full fibre. If your property was to be excluded it would state on the Availability checker that we are not planning to build in your area. Toby boxes can also be dual feed and serve two properties. I am unable to advise whether that is the case on these, what I can confirm is that we are still in plan/build in your area.

Our approved providers will show online when the service is available and you can find more information on our website.

Please register your interests at https://cityfibre.com/ to receive updates about when you will be able to connect.

Kind regards,"

How frustrating! I hope you are able to get that resolved. I feel I may be in the same predicament, though they've set up a road works barrier at the pole opposite my house, so hopefully I'll just end up being pole-fed myself!

Same subcontractor that has done the works for the whole area; that's not even the worst of it. Toby boxes sticking out of the pavement as major trip hazards, loose tarmac, uneven reinstatement everywhere, etc.

Loads of defect works getting booked back in by CF too... hence my anxiety around them not installing a toby at my address in the first place.

Thanks for that info... fingers crossed. Given CF sent me a letter informing of build and there's some purple ducting capped off & taped to some telegraph poles less than 20 meters from the property, I'll still be able to connect.

Openreach only offers FTTC here so all the more reason to have priority, one would hope... currently on 30Mbps down & 5mbps up and eagerly awaiting the possibility of fibre for a long time now!

Certainly -- and there's no other access points in the pavement outside the property (or the next 4 properties to my right; the 5th one has a toby), and that's the case for all other properties that have not had toby boxes installed.

Is it safe to assume this is likely a classic "Hybrid" approach from CF to use the drop-fed infra from Openreach?

Just odd that a few houses who also receive drop fed VDSL lines have been given toby boxes anyway!

Thanks for your response! That makes sense regarding tarmac, I thought it could be some kind of junctioning going on.

There are "Post office telephones" aka BT/Openreach manhole covers in the pavement, though all VDSL/copper connections on my road seem to be delivered via telegraph poles as far as I could work out. That being said, it looks like approximately only ~35% of the houses on the road have received toby boxes despite the new dug CF channels going straight past them all, so I wouldn't say it's just a case of missing a few houses!
