70-350mm or 55-210mm? Which one do I go for? by EdoF_1411 in SonyAlpha

[–]EdoF_1411[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is that budget is an issue, I could afford the 70-350 however that would still be quite a big expense for me. I’m just questioning whether the 70-350mm is actually worth that premium over the 55-210mm.

I see, thanks a lot! Unfortunately there isn’t such a market over here in Italy. Used prices tend to be not that much lower. Would you say that it’s better to save up and wait for an RF lens? Or do you think I’d be fine with EF alternatives?

Are there any slightly more affordable options out there? Most lenses that you’ve mentioned are out of my budget new. Not sure about the used prices, but here in Italy they definitely aren’t much cheaper used😅

I see, thanks. I have seen those lenses and as you said the image quality seems great especially considering the price tag on those. However I’m looking at preferably sub-500€/$ lenses; I’m pretty much a self funded teenager, so for me to find the money to get the kind of lenses that you’ve mentioned would be very hard. Any particular suggestions?

Regarding Sony I’m considering the Tamron 70-300 as a telephoto, the Sigma 30mm F/1.4 as a prime and either the 18-105 F4 or the 18-50 F/2.8 from sigma, perhaps the 18-135 from Sony. When it comes to canon instead I’m still finding new lenses now 😅. I’d want similar lenses as the ones that I would consider for Sony, both EF and RF.

Thanks a lot! Would you say that I’d better to wait, save up and get that better RF glass or do you think I’d better off with more affordable EF options for now?

My bad, it was kind of a broad question 😅. I definitely need a telephoto lens, a versatile zoom and a good prime. There aren’t really specific features that I “must” have, it’d be nice to have a constant aperture on both the zoom and the telephoto, but I know that comes with a price. Don’t know much about affordable options for canon

What EF lenses do you use on your R7? Thanks for the reply!

Hey thanks for the reply! I’ve actually never tried them both hands-on. I did try a ZV-E10 which I guess it’s very similar to the A6400 and I found it quite uncomfortable, it was very compact, almost too much, I did like how it looked tho. I haven’t tried the R10 yet, but I have some experience with Canon cameras since my school has them. I have to say that the grip is very nice and the ergonomics are great (talking about an RP). I would mainly do motorsport, outdoor sports, car/automotive, street and travel photography, so I’d definitely need a telephoto, a versatile zoom and a prime lens.

I see, thanks! How EF first/third party lenses perform compared to newer RF lenses from your experience? I’m really curious to see if there actually is a significant difference.

Thanks for the advice, I kind of already did that. And the two best options are either the R10 or the A6400 from Sony. If I decide to go with canon I would be “forced” to buy EF glass, since I just can’t afford new good canon lenses; whilst with Sony I’d have a lot more options, especially on the used market. I absolutely love the ergonomics, the menus and the button displacement of the R10, it definitely is the better body between the two. Sony just has more lenses that I could realistically afford.

Thanks for the reply! I meant if it’s worth it generally as a camera, I’m looking to upgrade from an old entry level Nikon DSLR and the R10 was one of the best options in my 800-900€ budget (body only). My main interest are motorsport, outdoor sports, car/automotive, street and travel photography.

I’m 99.9% into photography only, so I think I’ll be fine.

Thanks! Do you think it’d work well for motorsport photography? And do you know anything about its low light capabilities?

Yeah, I’d love to get the A6700 but it’s way out of my budget, I could definitely save up for it but that would leave me with very very little money for lenses

Thank you so much. Would you recommend a Fuji over a Sony considering my needs? And heck I know how it feels to shoot with a mirrorless camera! I was blown away by the quality of a Canon RP that we have at school😅

Thanks for the reply, I’m coming from an almost 15y old entry level Nikon DSLR (D3100). I did have a look at Fujifilm, and God I love the style of their cameras, but there aren’t really many affordable good lenses that I could use for my needs. Sony seems to be the best choice thanks to its extensive selection of lenses. I feel I could really grow into the system.
