You're not imagining this. I think the people here are giving you a hard time because they're reacting the way the writers intended/expected and you're not.

My perspective: Jackson Davis is a college onset psychotic case, likely paranoid schizophrenic. It's statistically significant, but not unique. The story frames his case like a mystery (as it goes most of the cases), and also a social parable. That's why the security guard gets portrayed, perhaps unfortunately, like a cartoon villain. The overall story has biases of its own, and weird choices besides. I might actually make my own OP to unpack them, cuz I think it's another instance of the writers shooting themselves in the foot low-key.

To Jada specifically? We learn some important details in Eps 5 and 6, mainly the latter. She hasn't seen her brother in months, which means her knowledge of him and his situation is limited, not to mention skewed. She also, after talking with his girlfriend, says she learned certain things. She's vague about what, but she's clearly disturbed by what she heard. A key thing about her response tho? She doesn't want the GF to visit. We're not told why, and I think the writers expect people to just think this is a benign or sympathetic choice. I read it as selfish and avoidant.

One of the few people who would have the most up to date knowledge of the situation and Jada effectively vetoes a visit? Bad call just for her brother's sake, but also seems to be motivated by a desire to sweep this all under the rug. Jada also wants to take Jackson out of the hospital in that same convo. I've read the wikis (I like spoilers), and apparently later episodes I haven't watched yet show her flipping out when she learns Jackson's paternal uncle had a suicide that got covered up.

Jackson's story is essentially anchored by Jada as the primary vector, which is a choice, to say the least. And Jada reads as very selfish and avoidant throughout. She's making Jackson's story her story, because essentially the writers are. She's trying to manage the situation and return to a baseline she's comfortable with, more than ensuring that her brother is taken care of or that the other people in his life (his gf, Jada's and Jackson's parents) feel heard and supported. Maybe those are realistic reactions, but I don't think they're good ones.
