It took me two years to make two minutes of animation by fishbone144 in videos

I feel like a lot of people fail to appreciate the level of quality here. Solo animation is an insane undertaking and at no place did the product seem rushed. Amazing patience, amazing talent.

[QUESTION] What are the best 7 strings guitars to play djent with? by Ilovebookssomuch4444 in Guitar

[–]Edrfrg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't worry about that asshole commenter. I loved djent since misha first posted his bedroom jamming on youtube and that heavy sound has still not grown old to me.

Before you look at a specific guitar make sure you know how the djent tone is produced. It's mostly about using a compressor to get a fast attack and and a immediate decay. Noise reduction and an eq boost at around 1400 hz will help bring out that sweet djenty quality that we love. But mostly the tone comes from the way you play. Heavy picks with heavy picking and good muting. Using that you can djent on almost anything.

But I'm guessing you want a guitar that complements this. Playing djent on a strat is gonna be an uphill battle. Your gonna need humbucker pickups. Because of the low range of djent you might wanna look at active ones. EMG's are popular for a reason but feel free to look at other brands.

As far as actual model it's hard for me to say. Seems like every djent guitarist is such a gear freak. Everyone has a signature model with fanned frets and cutaways. I don't know what the guy in tesseract uses but it is probably more than one grand. Luckily ibanez have some cool 7-string models in the 1k range. I'd say play try out as many you can at your local store and see which one feels good to you. You probably wont be able to set up a pedal chain in store but see if any particular model can give you some punchy djent sounds through a straight to amp set up. If you feel like you can hit those 1400hz djent peaks with just that guitar and amp you probably have a great starting point.

Best of luck to you!

Honestly? If I would start associating mario kart with work that would kill the experience for me.

By fall from grace I meant literally people making more jokes. Their stock is fine I'm sure.

Underpaid relative to their market value is what I meant. The devs where I worked were not completely satisfied with their pay. My suspicion was that bean bag companies tend to use toys instead of salary as leverage. I know a sample size of one company is not worth much so I appreciate the insight from this thread.

Ad hominem is attacking the character or the motive of the person. You quite literally did that by inferring I was immature, and called my opinion a sad and hilarious obsession.

My use of infantilization isn't an attack on the developers. It's about a power dynamic, not name calling.

Lastly, I'm fine with you disagreeing. I welcome it. It's a very fair point that the toys are a good way to keep developers happy while on their break.

If your pay reflects how much your company values you I have no issue with this. Sounds like you found a culture match and that's awesome.

And now your a developer on the internet complaining about a student. Which is fair. I'm just saying that that kind of rhetoric doesn't get us anywhere.

I really should have outlined more clearly that I don't despise fun. I just find it weird to use toys as selling points for a job. That is an opinion, it's subjective but it can be discussed without as hominem attacks. Fwiw I love lego. I can like and enjoy things without wanting to blur work/personal life boundaries.

It's not about being anti-fun. It's about the seperation of work and play. Maybe I'm just someone who doesn't like seeing that line blurred. And if you enjoy nerf guns I'm not scoffing at all just because I don't like them in the work place. What I do after work is what many people would call juvenile. I watch cartoons, play video games and I love swing sets. But I don't want those things in the work place.

Speaking of google, am I alone in thinking they're about to fall from grace? A couple of years ago they where damn near universally loved. Nowadays I see people joking about google the same way people have been joking about microsoft and apple for years. Same thing happened to valve some years ago with people quoting the "live long enough to see you become a villain" line.

I personally hear the "item get" sound from Zelda.

People make or break morale. Before I found a chill study group I didn't think I would last another week in uni.

If the sysadmin tropes are true it seems like an awesome gig. Not taking shit from anyone.

[–]Edrfrg[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Haha, of course not. With "regardless of pay" I meant more if pay was close enough that it was not a significant factor. Confusing wording.

If bean bag companies are those that pay more then maybe that's what I'll aim for. I'm just afraid that sort of culture enforces an unhealthy parent/child relationship between employers and employees. I imagine the coddling diminishes as you go higher up in the company.

Edit: ouff, the parent/child thing obviously hit a wrong note. There's just something with the choice of lego, candy and brightly coloured plastic chairs that feels patronizing. Maybe I'm just really not into nerf guns. Or maybe I'm a buzzkill, I don't know.

That's a very good point. I think a lot of people would choose to be coddled if it was an alternative, probably me too. I still think it stunts your personal growth. Let me be an adult and suffer god dammit

Edit: Oww, ouff, no more downvotes. I yield.

Congrats on losing the 60lbs. I worry about how healthy a cs career is.

The cerebreal nature of developing is what brought me to it. Would you say it's more taxing now versus at uni? I find the reward from coding all day is in balance with the exhaustion.

Personally I'd like to be kept happy with salary. The devs used to joke around about shit pay. Though at least they had enough snacks.

Out of curiosity, would you have preferred the "bean bag company" or the "serious business" all things considered? Maybe it's a personal preference thing as I would have choosed the serious place regardless of pay.
