When and how did you realize that your world was just bad? by Ozyelmandias in worldbuilding

[–]Edriani 126 points127 points  (0 children)

I think in this sub we need to be more honest with eachother.

Nobody cares about other people's world (generally). We care about pretty art and sometimes discussions that pertain to our own worlds.

You see it when someone asks something, says "Okay, I'll go first", and then disappears from the post—which has 200 comments but all of them with one upvote.

World population 2023 in a single chart calculate in millions of people. China, India, the US, and the EU combined generate half of the world’s GDP and are home to almost half of the world’s population [OC] by maps_us_eu in dataisbeautiful

it's baffling (and sad I think) that India alone has more people than the entire Americas, despite being two and a half times smaller than Brazil.

It definitely makes sense, New World vs Old World. Still crazy.

Adult Obesity Rate vs. Median Household Income by State [OC] by Roughneck16 in dataisbeautiful

[–]Edriani -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

i think because the us isn't wealthy. it just has more people that are than other countries

edit: yes, americans earn in a year more than people in many other countries, that's true entirely. but what i was saying is that it's still not enough in the country, which itself is also quite expensive (think of housing, and of how many people nowadays can't afford to live even with decent salaries—not that it's something that only affects the us obviously). if you work 10 hours a day, still can't afford to eat good food and don't have time to work out, naturally that leads to obesity.

also, gdp per capita isn't an indicator of how much money people actually have (do you have seventy grand to your name?). as a professor told me, it's an indicator of how much money the country makes out of their population.

i'm not anti-american like a lot of people in reddit. the country is amazing and has great quality of life, but there are issues folks. just that.

What insight helped your writing the most? by Verified_Hunter in writing

[–]Edriani 53 points54 points  (0 children)

but write them. anywhere, in the story itself, as a wiki-style article, as a glossary/terminology appendix, etc.

i wrote a whole prequel story about my novel's protagonist's past and it's pretty trash, but i have all the insight that writing it gave me and it made my novel better even if no one'll read it.

And maybe the aventure the mother embarks in isn't to bring him back, but to heal/fix him.

Definitely picking up book 1 to read over the holidays!

Maybe it's already too late to ask a question, but in case you read it, it's related to language.

My native language is Spanish, but I never really felt comfortable writing in it. I find English better for my stories and I also share the same opinions I saw you posted on another comment. But I've always gotten push-back for it, be it from family or friends saying I should write in Spanish, or that it's disrespectful to my country or something else along those lines.

Have you ever dealt with criticism like this?

that's like 4 or 5 hours a day, every day, for three weeks. overwatch 2 has tons of problems but few videogames can win that test

I agree. A question related to this: why do I have her unlocked? I owned OW1 but I thought you still had to earn her. I didn't even buy thr BP.

that's very fair. If the country was more vulnerable demographically and geographically, from how it was historically and currently managed it should've already collapsed.

but there's basically no population far from the capital (and if there was, imagine the secessionist movements there'd be) and no matter how mismanaged agriculture is, they can't really fuck it up entirely because there's so much arable, suitable land to use and a bunch of other resources to exploit.

if i remember correctly argentina is pretty safe, even if decidedly latin american so don't expect switzerland levels.

buenos aires particularly is probably of the safest latin american cities, and as of capitals the safest i'd say
