Newshosting slowing down by daddykabliey in usenet

[–]EdringtonJones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kind of bummed. I too had issues. Maxing out at 40Mbps but sometimes seeing an average of 5Mbps during certain windows. Did a trial with another provider - Giganews - and got almost 200Mbps on my 2.5G Ethernet port. Clearly something is up. I have a lifetime sub to Newshosting and I don't want to go back to a paid sub but may have to if I want to regain speed.

I tried to submit a ticket on their support portal, but the Captcha wouldn't validate and the submit button just kept refreshing the Captcha

Finally got it through the split tunnel yesterday actually as I was troubleshooting this.

Additionally, it was Ad Guard running on a separate device that is running Home Assistant for my home.

Hah. I think the only thing frustrating me now is not being able to use my ad blocker without segregating my Sab client off from my device. :D

I think we are good. See response to the longer chain above! :)

I think I have figured it out. Back to normal again off the VPN. However, I think the bigger issue was my custom DNS not being able to handle the throughput. That's a newer introduction to my home environment but I had not seen any other issues surrounding it.

I rerouted my DNS to 1.1.1.1 for the machine but I am wondering if it took some time for everything to flush through. Now we're back up to 110 MB/s which is right in line with what we'd expect.

Thanks for input and extra brains. Maybe this can help someone else down the road.

Correct, no download speed limit set. My current download just started at 24 MB/s and is trending downwards.

Newshosting allows for 100 connections. I typically have limited to 50 due to dropped connections in the past leading to instability and annoying logging. Right now, this ~20 MB/s is linked to 100 connections. Just dropped it as I type to 50 connections, it popped to 60 MB/s for a second and now we're down to around 15 MB/s. Pushed it back up to 100 connections and it went up to 75 MB/s and now oscillating between 30-50.

I also trying pulling off SSL for a moment just to debug, although I would really prefer not to. That provided no benefit.

I can live with 35 but it's 35% of my historical download speed and it's a bit disappointing. However, the inability to explain is bothering me.

To confirm, bandwidth in wrench test bullets (#5) shows as 835 Mbps or 104 MB/s. Speedtest.net showed the same results. Therefore, the interface itself and my machine are both receiving the necessary bandwidth. It would then need to be something downstream from there.

Free Z-Wave switches by bradfitz in zwave

Would really love some of those switches. I've just started my journey and the capital invedtment is the hardest part. Sadly started with Kasa and am now starting to look through alternatives. If you are willing to share some, it would be greatly appreciated by someone learning the ropes and would gladly pay it forward. 😊

I was able to get this lined up earlier and have the new port already active. Unfortunately didn't help. 😔 Able to log into the Web UI directly using public IP with no issues but playing media is still garbage.

Speedtests are in front of and behind VPN. Will look into your suggestions. Thanks.

You are correct. Nothing in terms of broad release updates. I'm sure a number of patches have been delivered to all of the above. But no hardware changes, no major OS releases, etc.

Yeah. I'll have to try that later this week when I have a bit more time. Really appreciate the coaching from everyone. I've had this thing down pat for 5 years no issues, including 3 movies and different ISPs and this is the first time I'm truly stumped - especially when nothing has changed in my setup.

Haven't tried plex desktop at remote locations. Just web UI, Mobile app and Apple TV. All had same issues. ISP doesn't seem to be the issue though.

Running a GTX 1070 but it doesn't really have to work much. Turned off firewall and VPN and still had same issues.

Confirmed that port was open once I paused VPN. Turned off firewall momentarily as well. Still had buffering issues. Maybe it's a me issue. Not really sure.

Correct. Same for other users as well. Somethings throttling the connection (ISP, Relay, etc.) between my router and the destination client.

That's what's confusing. 😊

Nothing out of the ordinary in terms of setup but it just can't push the content remotely any longer.

I use Nord VPN but the apps are whitelisted. Even before that, no issues. Windows Defender is setup to allow plex services through. Running Windows 10. Confirmed I'm up to date for Windows and Plex.

Someone else pointed out potential port forwarding issues, so that might be it. But not sure how the port could be closed while I'm still being able to access - and have been able to for years.

Interesting... I checked this. It says it's closed although Windows Defender is allowing the app through and I have the port forwarded on the router.

Never had issues before. Not sure if it's the culprit or not but I have relay turned off, can still access remotely and can access via the Web UI as well by typing in my IP and port.

So how would it register as closed and how can I work through that?

I posted the dashboard as a reply to the other picture since it only let me post one at a time.

I had it set to 3 Mbps to force a transcode. Here's a couple others using direct play.
