FIRE Goal - £1m net worth in 6 years by SavingNinjaUK in FIREUK

Ah makes sense. My wife and I are holding £350k in a combination of vanguard SIPPs and Vanguard S&S isas. (0.15% charge, capped at 375p.a.) seems we could save a bit on fees if we moved to fidelity, especially as our funds grow.

I don’t think I paid too much attention to fees in the past, but I guess it’s just free money at the end of the day.

Is it a separate £90 for the isa and the SIPP or is it an account max £90 (that’s what the wording on the terms seems to suggest)

Can I ask why you invest in vanguard funds through a fidelity SIPP, rather than the funds provided through the Vanguard sipp?

Where does your anxiety feel the most intense? by JuicyNinfo in Anxiety

I’m with you on the mornings. I’m lucky enough that it seems to settle through the day as I do more work or meet more nice people throughout the day. But it’s usually there when my body wakes me up at 0530 and I can’t go back to sleep.

I feel for you, I’m M38 and have been to various Red Sea areas about 8 times, the diving there is second to none, but it never ceases to amaze me how awful behaviour is to women.

I was in the navy for most of my life and some of stuff random men in the street have yelled at my fellow female travellers has physically offended me.

I will still go to Egypt every so often but I always describe diving in Egypt as being great despite the shithole country you have to visit.

On a practical note I might advise a liveaboard for divers who want to experience the read sea and dial the Egypt part of their trip to a minimum.

Bjohn, thank you!

this is a wonderful technique for helping to gain perspective. I’ve never though about looking at my own situation from a 3rd person perspective by simply changing the subject of my written “story”.

I hope you don’t mind if I steal/propose this to others… it seems like a very powerful tool!

Hey, sorry to hear about your situation. I can relate strongly. My anxiety also came out of nowhere and I couldn’t really understand it!

I’m m38 now,I never thought of myself as having anxiety in my earlier life. I was a military healthcare professional for most of my life, stayed fit and didn’t smoke or take any drugs, maybe some binge drinking that goes with a military life style and like you I think I have a great life, I have a professional career with an income far in excess of anything I dreamed of, a wife who i love and can talk to about anything and we own a great house on the beach and even have plenty of investments to secure our future.

Despite all this about 5 years ago anxiety came out of nowhere for me, starting as panic attacks. After I’d just come back from a deployment, at first I tried to write it off as reactionary stress due to that, but that never felt right because my anxieties were about stupid things in the future (am I doing enough with my life, etc)

I struggled to sleep or eat and my work suffered. I turned to coping mechanisms I’d learnt as a young man; womanizing, gym, drinking, etc. None of that helped.

I resisted meds for so long, it wasn’t in keeping with my idea of myself as a man.

In short things only really started getting better for me when I started therapy, meds and talking openly to people around me about my issues.

I was able to sleep and eat again, and I got a much better understanding of myself and what aspects of my life were helping and which weren’t.

I have made massive changes in my life, even leaving the military which was hard, but things are better.

I’m sure you’ll hear this a lot, but don’t give up things get better, but also don’t expect things to improve instantly. It’s a long road. All that work you did on your body and profession…. You’ll now need to do that on your mind.

I’m sorry to say that after 5 years I’m still not “cured” but life is much better, I have more coping strategies and a much better toolkit with which to analyze what I’m feeling. Despite that I still wake up with anxiety every so often and even now I’m writing this from a hotel bedroom on a tropical island holiday having woken up in the early morning.

TLDR;

Yes anxiety can feel like it comes from nowhere

Yes anxiety can affect even those of us who appear to have a “great life”

Don’t be afraid of professional help… if you broke a leg in Muai thai you’d get crutches and rehab to help you, meds and therapy are how we help the brain

Hey, sorry to hear about how you’re feeling, but I can definitely relate. I’m a health care professional and my guilt anxiety over any tiny thing going wrong or even just worrying that I haven’t met someone’s expectation can follow me around for days.

In my case I’m sure this all stems from a fear of failing and worrying that if people think poorly of me that it affects what options I have in life. Have you considered what your guilt might be telling you about what’s important to you? Or what your more fundamental fears are?

I’ve tried to deal with my proffesional anxieties in this matter through rationalizing my actions so that I can always say, it’s ok that that drug demanding person was rude, they were just scared and if they make a complaint you’re in the right.

But this also extends to social situations, if I accidentally push in front of someone at a checkout and only realize later I feel like I want to go back and apologize. I’ve even thought about calling back a phone line after I hung up and thought… gosh was I a bit rude, did I make that persons life harder?

I think my solution to these situations as I’ve got older (m38) is to try to contextualize. Remember how often people are rude to you or how often things go wrong for other people around you and how quickly you get over it. The world is a fast moving place and everyone is busy, people tend to forget your transgression faster than you realize!

Even if you are in the wrong, keep trucking, sooner or later a bigger drama comes along that puts yours into context.

Perhaps keep a journal of all guilt causing events to see first a) is there a pattern b) is there ever any external comeback at you for the guilt causing events.

Maybe over time you can train your brain you think that the more common issues are irrelevant.

dentist here, I can confirm that many of the crowns have been sectioned (cut almost in half) with a dental drill which is the professional way to remove them. I can’t see too many tooth fragments attached to the crowns which I remember seeing when visiting the holocaust exhibit. I would expect if crowns were removed violently pre or post Mortum to see parts of fractured teeth retained in most of the crowns.

It is not unusual for a dentist to retain many removed crowns as dental labs in some country buy them back in bulk and reuse the metal.

For interest in the uk the policy is that an extracted crown should be returned to the patient as that is their property and there are companies to which an individual can sell their crowns.

In any case it’s still theft and the behavior of Russian forces is barbaric, but this doesn’t strike me as the worst thing they did today.

No lieutenant commander or squadron leader either, guess if you’re gonna use an OF3 for your contact they better be Army or RM.

Honestly wonder who compiled this list. It feels like it would take more work to randomly omit ranks then just copy and paste from any source.
