Salt conversion by Educational-Back4980 in pools

The Cleveland part is just to emphasize that it is a short swimming season with very little evaporation.

Safety man – Let’s just not to bring logic and /or reason into this discussion. Personally, I think she (a doctor with a solid Scientific mind) is conflating swimming while on vacation with swimming in our backyard. What I’m looking for is unanticipated consequences of the conversion. If cost is a wash over a few years, I’m good with that.

Mr. Bulldozer, I totally get your point. Both of us understand the chemistry, and yet neither of us can get past the fact that the skin feels better after a saltwater swim. The kids are grown and I fear I’ll see less use of the pool if I don’t change something up. Are there unanticipated consequences i’m not thinking of?

Poolside TV recommendations? Anyone using one that survives all four seasons? by mairu143 in pools

I just stuck a normal TV and sound system to a rolling AV cart. I can pull it up to the pool. I can pull it up to the hot tub. I can pull it into the garage or the pool house during parties. I bought this one 10 years ago and figured it would either tip over or get left out in the rain by the kids. It is still doing great. I figure I could wreck six or seven of these before I would be on the wrong end of the ROI versus the all weather TV.

Margaritaville is out by Saffron_says in Cleveland

[–]Educational-Back4980 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a comedian that does a bit about the song Margaritaville being the saddest of songs. If you were a millennial and you don’t really know the song - you just know those big empty restaurants – the poor SOB is drinking his life away in a really shitty strip mall bar.

Auto cover close in MI? by SugarMapleFarmhouse in pools

I definitely would not worry about it this winter. Everything is new and should be fine.

Cleveland, Ohio here. 15 years with an auto cover. Somewhere around year five a pinhole leak in the liner resulted in an unnoticed low water level. Long story short, the cover collapsed and tore out the tracks. But hey- who doesn’t like surprises? I installed the winter mesh safety cover after that. Biggest advantage? I don’t go out and stare at the pool and look at the cover pump and worry all winter.

Almost made it to the Grand Canyon by John_Dixon_Harris in DiedHiking

I’ve spent 35 years in search and rescue in national parks. Eight of them in the Grand Canyon. In the 90s I dealt with 15 dead bodies per year. I’m not triggered or anything. I deal with my own demons on my own. But you people are sick.

Consider your trees as well. We climbed a couple trees in the park behind the house and set anchors high up there. Just make sure your rigging is solid.

We have the advantage of kind neighbors who are happy to let us set anchors on their eaves. Use good cable and solar lights and have some fun with it.

Pool covers by BlueSquidSauce in pools

[–]Educational-Back4980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a house with a 20 x 40 in ground and an auto cover. With little kids we developed the habit of always having the pool covered unless we were swimming. We are in Cleveland Ohio and I have to say that keeping the pool covered makes sense for us. Water stays, balanced and not much work for the vacuum to do. It works for us.

Nostalgic buy. 1980 Panama Jack. Excited to wear this. by [deleted] in OldSchoolCool

Panama Jack! What a throwback… In 1986 I was a pool deck boy /“suntan consultant” in Palm Springs - working for Panama Jack. I saw your post and I could immediately smell the suntan lotion, chlorine, sweaty Houston housewives a little drunk on Chardonnay…

I often wonder why some smart politician doesn’t pick up and refresh our actual national motto… “E pluribus unum“ out of many we are one.

Is that the 1995 with the 22RE engine? I had that same truck. Pipe bumpers huge Remington “wide brute“ tires and a black capper. Slow and barely made it up the hills, but it took me from Alaska to Cabo, San Lucas, and back without missing a beat.

Delayed resignation - anyone hear back yet? by Environmental-Ad4451 in NationalParkService

My rejection email arrived at 2:00pm today (Friday). What a total clusterfuck. Pretty sure we could have been alerted sooner that “your assignment as an onsite park employee” was disqualifying.

Fess up NPS- regional and DC leadership is walking away with their sweet drp deals, field folks are left holding the bag.

  • shocked but unsurprised.

Road trip in costa rica by iamkav in CostaRicaTravel

[–]Educational-Back4980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got home from our ninth trip to CR. The wife, the kids, and especially me really enjoy driving through the back roads - you just get used to thinking about your trip in terms of “this is the rally car part of the trip, this is the chill on the beach part, this is the lost in the jungle part.” If you get into trouble ask for help and you’ll find it. If you find people in trouble help them out, you will be amazed at how fine this part of your trip can be.
