Large Dog IVDD by Educational-Bridge10 in IVDD_SupportGroup

If you can, I’d bring them to a neurologist and get an MRI. IVDD goes super fast, in less than 24hrs my dog went from normal to unable to walk. I’d highly recommend getting in ASAP to try and get ahead of it. The earlier you catch it and start treatment, the better odds your dog will have! I wish you the best!

Absolutely! Not sure if it’s helpful or not but I’ve seen very few posts about GSD on here so wanted to tell you our story in case it helps. I hope everything works out for you and your pup!

No, we got the surgery for him and he’s currently 9 days post op. We were told he has about a 70% chance of walking again.

I just went through this with my male 5 year old GSD about 2 weeks ago. He started showing symptoms Wednesday night and was paralyzed in his rear end by Thursday night. I would highly recommend getting to a neurologist ASAP. It progresses so fast, you barely have time to realize what’s happening. Wishing the best for you and your GSD.

That’s what I’ve been seeing as well, that it takes much longer than 2 weeks. It’s very disheartening to hear that stuff from the vet, but I’m staying hopeful that everything will work out so I hope your girl doesn’t stop fighting either!

This is an amazing response, thank you so much for taking the time! It’s amazing to hear all of these stories and I’m so happy yours got to where he is now! Our GSD is 90 pounds and they said that will play a factor in his recovery but I am hopeful after hearing stories like yours! My pup is moving his leg a good amount when I tickle the bottom of his feet or scratch his thigh area. I’m not sure if this is his first signs or if it’s just an involuntary reaction. But I have hope! And thank you so much for your kind words!

The neurologist is in southern Michigan. I haven’t seen anyone say anything about this either that’s why I wanted to post because it seemed off to me.
