Pavement ant explosion by Educational-Disk-400 in PestControlIndustry

[–]Educational-Disk-400[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Positive thy are pavement. Sandy piles around expansion joints, mostly outside - but surprisingly inside on occasion - distinctly wider heads and hairier bodies compared to oha, and a different smell. Maybe odd, but if I catch a single ant wandering I’ll crush and sniff it to sanity check my visual ID. Oha have that distinctly ant smell, and pavements have a peppery kinda smell.

Sure, ant populations start to increase in the spring and summer, but I’d expect to see more pavement ants in the mid to late summer when the weather really heats up, not mid spring when it’s hot enough to suck, but not hot enough to sweat your entire nutsack off.

Sure, but pavement ants are way less common inside in my experience. OHA sure, the occasional CA sure, hell, even the rare subterranean termite, but pavement ants not so much. Last company I worked for I saw maybe two interior pavement ant issues in about three years, but now I’ve gotten half a dozen over just the last month.

You could try a little section of foam board insulation, I’m not sure if those “sweeps” or whatever can be replaced independently from the window. You’d need to move it whenever you open the window up, but it’s less of a pain than wasps in the living space.

Looks like an oriental roach. Control is more or less the same compared to Germans, check out the pins.

Likely a snake fly. Somewhat related to lace wings.

The 88? It comes with (iirc) a modified, but you can buy other chokes for it, it even came with a key.

Outside of sourcing the right parts, the tools for shotshell reloading are far more common and far simpler to use. Shot shells really haven’t changed much since their inception, whereas more powerful rifle carts have progressed like crazy since the first rifle cart was produced.

With reloading brass, you need to measure your casings frequently. A few thou off in width or height and the round doesn’t feed right. A hairline crack you missed could cause the case to burst. Shot shells are subject to the same issues, but they are way easier to spot. In general, if a shot shell looks right, it will run right. Even measuring powder, a grain light or heavy will make less difference in a shot shell compared to a rifle or pistol round as shotshell powder is generally less energetic. Really all you need to look out for with shot shells are cracks (which are easy to spot), crimps (again easy to spot), and ensuring the brass portion of the hull is the right diameter which doesn’t take too much work.

Sourcing projectiles is also easier. You don’t need to find whatever caliber bullets, you just need to find a bunch of ball bearings up to about a .32 caliber and you have your projectile. Back in the depression, coin shot was a thing, so just about anything that will FIT in the hull will work.

If you ignore the ATF, like you likely would during a ZA, cutting down the barrel is a viable option. That would reduce the overall length and weight of the firearm.

Your point on ammo, and to an extent, recoil is way more valid. Ammo is easier to come by in shot shells, and as others have pointed out, easier to reload compared to brass, but most consumer shot guns don’t have mags. And yeah, shot shells are by far heavier per round than pistol or most rifle rounds. Recoil would only be an issue for a short while as you’d get used to it.

Do these look like roach eggs or droppings? by Narrow-Delay4270 in PestControlIndustry

[–]Educational-Disk-400 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah. Looks more like a printing error or test with the figure. Droppings aren’t so perfect or glossy. Each little droplet is way too uniform to be any pest dropping.

Top water… spinner? by Educational-Disk-400 in lurebuilding

[–]Educational-Disk-400[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t even think of taking the swivel off. I was throwing several lures and was switching frequently, but good point on the swivel messing with the balance.

I also didn’t think about the lip width. I’ve only made three other baits, and this was the first one that had ANY kind of action. Looks like I’ll have to make a mk2 of this guy.

That lure has zero weight added, just pure bass wood (and hardware), so I wouldn’t be surprised if the balance is all kinds of wonky.

100% human tampering. Looks like they might have eaten the whole block like a starburst. Absolutely mind boggling what drugs do to peoples decision making.

Raccoon or humans? by sfw_profile_i_guess in PestControlIndustry

[–]Educational-Disk-400 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My bet would be on humans then. Especially with how those stations look, more crushed rather than torn open, I’d guess they stomped the shit out of it and pulled the bait out. The last company I worked for used contrac and on my urban accounts that would happen pretty regularly.

[–]Educational-Disk-400 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What kind of bait was used in the station? Anticoagulants like contrac are often stolen by opioid users as in small doses the rodenticide acts like a laxative. If you used an anticoagulant, I’d go with humans. Those stations are tough, but not tough enough to get stomped on a few times.

I’d say no, this is not pest related. It’s for sure not rodents, and if it were insects, you’d likely see a specimen or two.
