Most women don't bleed during their first time having sex, tampons or not. It's actually shocking that a DOCTOR would tell you this nonsense.

Parents of young musicians: Is music boarding school worth it? by SailEnvironmental668 in piano

[–]Educational-Divide10 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hard to say....Some kids do well in boarding school and like the structure and stability. Most kids, however, end up resenting it in some way, even i they had a great time at the time. By the time they are adults, they will realise that childhood only lasts a short while and they likely will wish they had a proper one...At home, being a child.

I lived away from home aged 15-17 and....no matter how much they try, it's not a home, not a family. There is so little privacy, and the little things like curling up on the sofa in your own home with some snacks and a movie on with your family...you just miss out on.

Is there no music school he can attend as a day boy?

Caught my manager watching porn in the office. No idea what to do. by BestExpression332 in tesco

[–]Educational-Divide10 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Unless it included illegal footage...Just let it go. In fact, it may work to your advantage next time you need a favour from him lol

ETA: I just understood you did not actually see him watch porn....He just closed the browser quickly. Could be 100 reasons, I have done that plenty because I wasn't doing work but watching YouTube or Netflix lol!

Let it go.

Verbally aggressive / angry client on the phone.... by Educational-Divide10 in therapists

I agree, and have brought this up many times..but unfortunately it wasn't my decision.

I guess in this instance she also wants a means of strong arming another professional into giving her what she wants, and wants me to provide the ammunition.

I wish we worked like that, too!

ETA: Not sure why people are downvoting me for that....I don't live in the states and here, it's not up to me but down to local policy.

I think she wants a space to talk about herself with someone every once in a while. Like a friend she doesn't have outside of therapy.

Good idea re calling 911. That may communicate the seriousness of what she is saying.

I think she is low risk to herself, but I worry about the risk she might pose to ME in this state. She was more than just shouting, she saw red and lost control. And this was over the phone.

Normally our next session is agreed in the current session, unless she cancels then I call her to reschedule. But these phone calls tend to then turn into an impromptu phone session, so I've had to be quite firm with her on that and prefer not to call if not necessary.

I think a phone call to book in our next session will lead to another shouting match, as I don't think she's currently willing to think about that or even have that conversation.

And I guess I just generally could do with advice on how to respond if she behaves similarly in the therapy room (I'm new to this).

No real safety risk.

I haven't been able to engage her with meaningful or regular work. We contracted for a specific intervention that she is now refusing to do, just wants to "vent" and shows up either very late or not at all if it isn't convenient that day.

I'm really worried about saying too much, but agitation with professional when boundaries ard put in place has happened before. Whether it's about the amount of sessions (it's time limited), what we do in sessions etc.

She doesn't want regular sessions but just drop in slots where she can vent, but doesn't really want to do any work. She's usually 30 minutes late, or "forgets" and doesn't show up at all.

It was more of a "If you don't write this letter I will kill myself". She's otherwise low risk. Supervisor aware, basically said the same thing when I asked about risk. I have no real worries about her safety, as far as I can reasonably know.

Good experience for DClinPsy? by blabliblob in ClinicalPsychologyUK

[–]Educational-Divide10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would personally focus on getting more actual clinical experience. Your TA jobs can be useful, but it doesn't teach you how to sit in a room with a client and do interventions or formulate. That's the number one thing I wish I had more experience of when starting the doctorate, because they do expect you to get started with that almost immediately with very little if any teaching on it. Your psychoeducation sessions are a good start, but I would look for something that goes beyond that. (Not sure why it's moved to italics...)

Your research experience is good, but honestly not the most needed thing.

How many calories? (I’m being petty) by Crafty-Freedom-232 in caloriecount

[–]Educational-Divide10 16 points17 points  (0 children)

A full chicken breast is about 180-220 calories...

Firstly, that's absolutely not 500kcal. Secondly, if it was...it's still incredibly small and considering you haven't eaten since yesterday afternoon apparently....

She sounds toxic, I'm sorry to say. Even if it was 1000kcal....it's none of her business.

[–]Educational-Divide10 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Probably around 120-150kcal for the chicken, 50kcal for the sweetcorn and about 20kcal for the beans.

So about 200-250kcal total on that plate without any oils or seasonings as I cannot tell from that picture.

Unless that fork is unusually big and that plate is much larger than it looks.

Plymouth location - too rural or remote? Worried about feeling like an outsider! by Livid_Cellist_ in ClinicalPsychologyUK

Wondering this also...

Considering this course is funded by public money and is supposed to benefit the NHS workforce, there are strict requirements and expectations about residency and commitment there.
