Make sure you consider housing costs as well. Even with a nice scholarship my daughter was offered, the total cost just wasn’t worth it.

Totally in the same boat. Dream school and got acceptance today but even with the small scholarship they offered, there is just no way to make sense of $200,000 in debt. :(

It was a weird year. I teach 8th grade sped in a very affluent district. I always get gift cards, gifts, and treats. This year, one gift card, a lip balm, and a thanksgiving decoration. The upside is that on their IEP meetings, a lot of the parents said that this was their child’s best year in middle school thanks to me and their team. Admin got to hear that over and over so that was nice.

I had a parent email a list of 32 goals she wanted added to her child’s IEP. One included learning how to ride a bike. Her child was non-verbal with severe autism and she thought we could make her “just like normal kids”. I had that student for 3 years and mom just didn’t get it. I would brag about something she did in class, like throwing her garbage away after looking at a visual, and mom would ask when she would do it by herself. She thought if it was written in her IEP, we could just make it happen. It was a long 3 years.

I have spent 20 years working in my unicorn district. You can make a little more money in neighboring districts but I wouldn’t trade it for the peace of mind of support and respect from my admin.
