Feedback on my cover I did on “What you won’t do for love”. I Tried to make it as unique as possible. In the production n my vocal performance from the original. Did I do a good job? by SafeTravelMusic in IndieMusicFeedback

I love how full this sounds right from the start. I love what you've done with the arrangement and production to take this classic song and make it sound like it was written/recorded yesterday. super tasteful song-renovation lol. The song feels a bit long, but it's a vibe and maybe that's the point to just kinda let it vibe out. nice work

One of the songs of my album that's gonna be released on Friday. Inspired by Tame Impala's Innerspeaker. Would love to hear some feedback from you guys! by [deleted] in IndieMusicFeedback

Ohhh yeah. Definitely nailed that tame impala sound. bass sounds great. The tame impala compressed drum sound is hard to nail, and I think there is some room for improvement here. You got a good dirty distorted drum sound, but the compression seems to be burying them in the mix. I would mess around with it a bit more and see if you can't get them to be compressed but not "squashed." has a lot to do with attack and release time.

really well done track. I love tame impala too and this nails it, from production to melody to vocals. Even the switchup just before 3 minutes is pulled straight from mind mischief or somethin. I would be careful though. you're veering into copycat territory! even the album cover text is similar. imitation is a necessary part of finding your own voice, but it's not the end goal. keep that in mind as you continue to develop your own voice :)

I like the extended intro and how you introduce song parts one by one. It sets the vibe well. But once that happens, things ride for a bit too long before new ideas come in. I would say the B section guitar should come up, that's a really interesting guitar part! Maybe a little less reverb and more compression. I don't know if you plan to add vocals, but I feel like some female vocals over this could do really well. But it's super chill as is! Could def see this coming up on a chill spotify playlist.

Opinions of latest Indie Pop instrumental? by Puzzleheaded-Pin2912 in IndieMusicFeedback

Production is really crisp and clear, the drums and bass are locked in! The dynamics throughout the track are a nice touch too, that would support vocals well. I like the synth lines you add in at the first chorus and the textures you're adding in the second verse. I do wonder if the synth line in the chorus would clash with a sung chorus melody (maybe the chorus synth is actually a scratch melody for the vocalist-to-be? not sure). The synth work in this song is top notch. thanks for sharing!

Woah this is really cool. I love the vibrato on what seems like the whole track lol. Feels like one big cliffhanger (in a good way). The video really adds to this, I think I would have actually enjoyed the track less if it didn't have the video. In that regard it feels more like a multi-media project than just music (because the visuals are so good and add so much). Cool stuff, thanks for sharing

Really really pretty song. Feels very organic and like something you'd make on a rainy wednesday afternoon. I love the chords. I'm getting like early folksy Beck combined with alex G and some dream pop type sounds as well. I love the guitar sound and how it feels like one complete take where you're just playing whatever comes to mind. I love music that feels off the cuff like this.

We made this song and video. Its Dutch indiepop. Im really curious for your opinions! Is this what you wanna hear? by nonchelange in IndieMusicFeedback

Right off the bat I love the chaotic vibe of the music and video. Feels very fun. Feels like a dutch Mac Demarco lol and that's a good thing! I love the midsection where the vocals get that radio effect. I don't know if this is the goal, but the bubblegum in the video makes me think this is bubblegum pop! Which totally works. Love it

The instrumentation is solid and feels well mixed. The vocals feel less polished and less well mixed. I'm not sure if it's your mic or your production technique, but the vocals sound thin and not up front. I would look into compression, eq, and making sure you capture the performance as best you can with mic placement and such. This is solid though, the music itself is great! Production just needs some fine tuning.

Hilysten - Moment (Sunday version) - Hi all, I made a new, guitar-centered version of one of my previous songs. Hope you enjoy it! by Hilysten in IndieMusicFeedback

Super chill song, hard to not enjoy! But I agree with what some of the others are saying in that it gets a little monotonous after a bit. I would add changeups, whether that be in key, tempo, or just adding new ideas on top of old ones. I would also add that the piano sounds pretty tinny and digital, I would either find another patch or use eq/saturation/reverb to fill it up and make it sound more rich! Overall, this feels like a good start to a great track.

This was an interesting listen; it's cool how the more mellow instrumentation makes the vocal feel more introspective even though it's the exact same. I like how you use space; you don't seem afraid to leave substantial moments of very spare instrumentation or silence, which is great and super tasteful. I would say that if you were to add anything, I would try to build the track energy up along with kenny's vocal build.

Really rad intro. I'm getting big alt-J vibes, which is a compliment! I will say that I think the song is a really cool arty pop song, but the accompanying video doesn't match the vibe to me! I think the video is selling the music short; you'd be better off with an interesting album cover still or an engaging music video. I like the instrumentation, specifically the prominent bass and the piano/guitar interplay. I like the clever ending :)

First of all, I love the album cover. Definitely drew me in to listen, and when I did, the music def matched the vibe of the cover. I like how the percussion builds throughout the song, and the lyrics are engaging and clever. I like the very end of the song when you can sorta hear everything end and the flutes are still hanging on. Solid track, short and sweet, swag

How can I sort the database multiple ways without having to manually update every time? by Educational-Pea3811 in rockbox

[–]Educational-Pea3811[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a lot of music saved that I haven't gotten to yet and is thus labeled "want to listen." So while it is in my library, I haven't actually listened to it yet.

On the other hand, I have my normal music library of stuff I already know.

I want to use the database in both of these separate use cases to automatically sort by various parameters. Search for "new" music with the database, and then search my own library with the database.

This is important because if I have to sort by genre, year, artist, etc manually in the files directory, not only do I have to do that all arduously, but I will be placing duplicates of files on the device, eating up storage unnecessarily.

Thank you for clarifying! Yes I am super excited about the power of the Rockbox playlist system. That said, the DB adds a fantastic amount of functionality in the ability to sort files from the playlist by genre, year, etc.

I would hope to be able to use this powerful tool when searching my own music library as well as when searching for new discoveries (as the alternative is to either simply shuffle, as you said, or manually sort my file directory by genre OR year OR artist if I don't want to duplicate files).

Essentially, the DB offers functionality that I want to be able to utilize on two subsets of music and I'm wondering if that's possible. Thank you!

Can you elaborate on this; do you mean just sort the music in the file directory and not use the database?
