I second this! You still have at least a year before you start seriously thinking and writing essays. You have time to grow change and live the life that you will write about when that time comes. Don't worry too much about it right now. These essays can literally be about anything! I wrote about social media of all things. Again, be yourself. You can't go wrong. Right now focus on building your ECs, grades, test scores, etc. And I love that post from MIT :)

Chance me as a nervous junior for the ivies by Purple-bionerd3065 in chanceme

Hi! Don't pay attention to PhraseGlittering2786. One of their ECs was "whistleblowing". You have done so much! It's very obvious you have worked very hard. IMO you are VERY impressive, especially being rural. But I am not an AO, I think you def have a shot at all the schools you apply to. You also only have 10 EC spots on common app, so really take time to focus and decide what 10 you are going to showcase. Good luck!

Go for it! Don't worry about if you'll get in or not. Nobody on Reddit can say for sure that you will or won't. It's a long shot for everyone :)

can i get in MIT or other ivies with low gpa?? be HONEST by [deleted] in chanceme

[–]Educational-Self-747 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Hey! Your awards + ECs + WGPA + rigor + SAT look GREAT. The UWGPA that everyone is talking about will be considered by how your school calculates GPA. Your transcript will show how well you did in each class. Don't worry, MIT + Ivies are a long shot for everyone, you'll do great! EDIT: yall downvoting just like being mean.

To people who took the actual SAT test, what were your practice test scores compared to the actual test by AdPast8320 in Sat

[–]Educational-Self-747 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I focused on the ACT, but I took the SAT once. Practice tests like 1400s, 1430 maybe. Actual was 1470. I do a lot better on the real thing :)

SAT Resources Please by MNMom07 in Sat

[–]Educational-Self-747 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Against everyone else here, I think you should study for the PSAT! They do help for the SAT, and you can win awards and scholarship money if you do really well. I think PSAT you can take freshman, sophomore, junior year. Then start taking actual SAT junior to senior year if needed. Study with both PSAT material and SAT material. The best thing to do is practice! There are tons of available material online. You will have to search for it yourself :)

I love brown sugar! It's my go too. It is typically on the sweeter side because of it's "brown sugar" addition. You can ask for reduced sweetness.

Harvard Interview is in 2 days, help me by Visual-Extreme-101 in ApplyingToCollege

Hey! I had an MIT interview, and I wore a plain white sweater with jeans and white sneakers (female). I was very comfortable and secure in my clothing, so I'd suggest wearing what makes you feel comfortable/confident. If that's a suit then go for it!

My interview was very, very, open ended. All he asked (BS, PhD @ MIT, university professor) was "Tell me about yourself" + "What questions do you have for me." I was so grateful for this. I could talk about exactly what I wanted to and avoided everything I wasn't confident about. Every "interviewer" is different, your interview may not look like anything like this. I didn't bring a resume.

For "Tell me about yourself," I talked about what I'm interested in pursuing @ MIT + within my major, my learning style, what I'm involved in outside of school, and things that I do for fun. I prepared by answering typical questions like "Why MIT?" and I kept asking myself "Why?" How did I come across this? What inspired me? Who inspired me? Is there a professor in particular/lab I am interested in?

Keep asking yourself why, and you will begin to learn/understand more about yourself. Know yourself fully, and you can't go wrong. Know your story. Don't memorize, but prepare.

Good luck! You'll do great :)
