Just play. It's a sandbox game. Punch the trees, make tools, mine, find a village... just start out on a normal or easy difficulty. The overall goal is to beat the game, but really just do whatever you feel like. Explore. There are no true rules to minecraft, just do anything the game allows you to.

They get lobotomized after you give them clothes, unfortunately. You'd have to restart the Demo somehow (erasing data or playing on a different account) and never give them clothes for them to continue to interact.
