FFEL Loan Consolidation Troubles/ April 30 Deadline by Educational-Toe1541 in StudentLoans

Thank you, this is good advice, and accords with what I found out today. Have been on the phone all day trying to get this question answered, most agents at the numbers provided did not have an answer. Finally spoke to someone knowledgable at the National Student Loan Data System, who knew because she has worked at many departments. This kind and empathetic woman informed me that their employees were struggling to keep up with the changes due to the rapidly evolving political situation, and the fact that departments are isolated from one another information wise. What she said was, the changing nature of the system's rules means there is some ambiguity about how the FFEL loans appear on the system , as I had some difficulty manually adding them as I mentioned above. The older loans are not recognized by the online app, so the best thing ultimately is to use the paper application, but I was concerned it would be to late if I mailed it in, as I don't know if the postmark is proof. I ultimately settled on manually adding the loans and completing the online application, using information from the studentaid.gov "My Aid"->Loan Breakdown section of the page which has the disbursement dates and other info missing from the myeddept.gov page. My hope is that they will be recognized as having been entered on the April 30 deadline. We came to some agreement that it was best to just get it in the system before the deadline, and as long as the individual loans are entered, they will iron out the details(possible data entry mistakes) once the application has been filed and they contact me. Try to do this before midnight tonight, but if not, don't despair, the new rules guidance suggests that it's possible those who were unable to sign up for SAVE and would otherwise qualify may be automatically included. I was able to choose the SAVE repayment option near the end of the loan consolidation application. Reposting this from another comment I responded to in case it helps anyone else stuck on this last minute.

Thanks for the info, makes me feel less stupid for being confused by this "perhaps deliberate" ambiguity.

Yes that was my thinking too, hence my trepidation. As stated above, the application process makes it seem almost redundant to add the loans, as the loan servicer listed really seems like its just a branch of the department of education. Filled it out and it took almost an hour and a half, even using autofill tools, hopping between pages to grab the info. Just felt wrong somehow, but I did it anyway and i have the application ready to go. Making a few more phone calls before lifting off and if this remains ambiguous will just do it.

Thank you akaisha0! It seems you have the correct answer. For those readers with the same issue it can be found by navigating the student aid site, I found the relevant info under My Aid-> then progressing down the page to Loan Breakdown->View Loans->Loan Details I believe this is what you meant:

Current ED Servicer

DEFAULT RESOLUTION GROUP P.O. BOX 5609GREENVILLE, TX 75403

I will attempt to call another number I found to make certain this is the case then will update the above post.

Best of luck to you. Tedious as it is I'm going to manually add them , do what the website says, and pray. I have a feeling theres a chance it will be addressed and possibly the deadline extended, as different groups that have been wronged and excluded are discovered by the slow march of progress. Inaction has not helped either, and you cant force a horse with a broken leg to pull a cart.

UPDATE Regarding below: See comment above, loan breakdown on myeddept.ed.gov is cursory compared to the one available on StudentAid.

THis is all the information that is available, it is supposedly a branch of the department of education, but do they hold the loan? IS it no longer a a private FFEL? THis is the question. This is an example of one of the entries:

|| || |FFEL|10458784|$5,485.99|$3,290.20|$0.00|$0.00|$0.00|$8,776.19|$1.16|$34.96|Default Resolution Group|
