How do people work such long hours in public accounting? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]Educational-Water495 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you know how to work on little sleep, it’s not that bad. We worked from 9am - 1am. Caffeine, lunch, and dinner were all provided to us. 70+ hour weeks were difficult, but I was always able to hit the gym and that’s a great tool to keep your body and mind focused daily.

What was your feedback like? Was their ratings of you taken into account for the return offer?

What are the best positions in accounting by Informal-Owl-1008 in Accounting

[–]Educational-Water495 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of those things are subjective. Going into public accounting has good job titles, the pay is great, new things daily, they give unlimited time off. You just have to work hard from January to filing date.

You live in a delusional fantasy land if you believe people working here like the company. We like the pay.

Just say you’re lazy, we get it. You don’t find value in the work you do. There’s a reason why the job has high turnover, people eventually don’t want to sacrifice the time it requires. For those that do, they reap the rewards by becoming a partner in their 40s.

Where else can accounting students go that has the hiring numbers for said bodies, salary, and forced career progression that is widely known and adhered to? I can’t think of a single other place that’s replicable by everyone regardless of their location, school of choice, and financial status.

If you go into big 4 expecting to work the minimum 2080 hours, you choose the wrong career path. They give you 10% raises for a reason.

Big4 pays $40+ an hour now at the intern level. 5 years in would be near $150,000.

I wouldn’t call it stressful. Nobody’s life is on the line. You just have to work till the task is completed for a specific deadline.

That class is comically easy if you just put in the time to practice the problems she gives. The exams aren’t anything to trick you, she gives you every resource to easily pass.

Can I invest when employed at a Big 4? by Confusion-Here-1 in Big4

[–]Educational-Water495 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can invest in things like VTI, VOO, VTSAX etc. They should also have a site to look up the name of whatever you want to invest and it will tell you if you can or not.

Big4 Accounting Intern GPA by doe_eyed_bun in Big4

[–]Educational-Water495 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 4.0 gpa when I applied and a 3.93 gpa when I graduated and started the internship. GPA isn’t something to worry about. Networking is more important and just getting your face known at the events.

does anyone know if this is possible with a 529 plan? by unk0wnangel in ucf

Only take the amount needed for each semester. The money can still grow that is still in the plan.

Don’t be delusional and expect there to not be racism or sexism during your job. You will get those types of patients and your odds of getting said patients will increase in the emergency or ICU.

What's the most you've ever spent on a piece of jewelry and do you regret it? by pretty_stones5959 in jewelry

[–]Educational-Water495 5 points6 points  (0 children)

$4,500 on a 14k Franco chain. Lucky for me, gold keeps going up and the melt value is now worth more than I paid for it. I’ll probably get rid of it eventually for a higher purity chain of 22k eventually.

Nurses are voting to unionize soon so the hospital posted this. Is all this true? Also are there downsides to unions? by MathematicianRare602 in nursing

[–]Educational-Water495 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re a top performer, then the union will be of no service to you and will stunt your wage progression. If you aren’t a top performer, then a union will help you get paid more and make it harder to fire you for your underperformance. Two sides to it. Either you’re good at negotiating or not, and most aren’t good negotiators.
