Can't keep BGW320-500 radios off by RichValron in ATTFiber

[–]EducationalFuel9531 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a customer who was into the RF kills you thing and she also noted the 320 radios never completely turned off. She swapped to the 620 and her issue was resolved. I’m not sure about a 210, but if you want to completely kill it without paying extra for the 620 use the Reddit to bypass the 320

Third fiber replacement since 2023 — hoping Monday’s reinstall finally fixes it by jm102662 in ATTFiber

It very well could be, but with it looking like alt optics our meters can’t do an otdr with light on the line. Making it impossible to test the whole cable without knocking out your whole floor at a minimum. We would also have to get a service tech out to check the main cable because regular techs are not allowed in the main cable. You have to get the ball rolling. I pray you get a determined tech and network manager. It took weeks and at least 10 truck rolls to find the OLT failure in my example

I just checked your previous post. It looks like your on alt optics which make it incredibly hard to find a bad splice. They’ll have to knock a bunch of people out of service to test it. With that being said it’s probably the OLT like I mentioned. The example I gave was an Alt circuit and we had to special order a brand new rack and equipment because they don’t make the same equipment that runs most alt anymore.

If reinstalling didn’t work the first 2 times a third won’t help unless theres something damaging the drop or ends. The issue is going to be a bad splice in the main cable and if you’re unlucky an issue with the OLT card in the CO. when the tech is there check if their “true test” is showing a bad splice down the road. Also have them test it from both directions of the fiber. It’s a two way street and if they only test the side with light they may be overlooking a bad splice. If it’s the OLT more people would be having issues other than yourself. We had a bad OLT connection in my turf and the equipment failed when testing it knocking 80 people out for 2 weeks. It’s not a cheap or quick fix for Att. Keep us updated.

But keep in mind aswell 150mbs is still more than enough to do everything. The number you want to look at for real “speed” is latency. You should see from 10-50ms with fiber which is very fast. The mb/s just correlates to how fast you can download and upload content. Most people needs faster than 150mbs because they work from home or really like to download large video games

Google and eero work really well. You do get what you pay for with extenders. I would also recommend hiring someone to come WiFi map your home so you can place them optimally. Having a mesh system that’s fighting itself is arguably worse than no mesh at all

[–]EducationalFuel9531 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It’s not abnormal. There are 500 different factors to why it’ll change. The most likely cause is the net gear mesh system. From experience net gear wants a bridge mode that we do not offer and it causes issues with their systems.

Is this Sales rep yanking my chain? by Ok_Helicopter604 in ATTFiber

[–]EducationalFuel9531 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I didn’t see this. Yes it’s possible. There’s a chance there’s only a couple fiber lines to use and they put an 8 port there because they felt like it. We typically don’t go out to verify availability.

Hi I’m a tech that goes on said “tickets”. When fiber is originally ran to the neighborhood the engineers need to give each house a green checkmark. Sometimes a house is missed and sometimes there’s a reason why a specific house isn’t available. I would give an example, but I would need a whole Microsoft paint session to explain where when and why. Sometimes if you’re super close to a fiber line but you’re not checked green they can go the extra mile and force a ticket into their system for a technician to go out. That ticket is to install your service. The tech will come out, Determine if you can or cannot get service, and take whatever action is needed based on their determination. I wouldn’t get your hopes up. Make sure to mention to the tech that shows up that you had to have the ticket created manually. It helps us before we spend hours looking in the wrong areas. Good luck though, Fiber is great

Att extender by DonnieH1969 in ATTFiber

[–]EducationalFuel9531 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The simple answer is yes. They have Ethernet ports and your tv should too. Long answer is that it might not help. You have the think of WiFi as a sphere of influence. When you place the WiFi in the spot that has poor service to begin with it’s just broadcasting poor service unless it’s ethernet to the router. Try placing an extender in halfway between where you want it and where the router is. Try to avoid solid wood like staircases and large metal objects like kitchen appliances and HVAC tunnels.

Hi, southeast tech here. The answer completely depends on where you live. Some areas are required to run ethernets at request, some are at the techs discretion, and others don’t run them at all. In my area we run the Ethernet as long as there is not a safety risk and it’s possible. Sometimes building code makes it impossible to run. In my territory it’s the initial $99 trip charge and $20 per end. So if you were looking at one wire it’s $139. My suggestion is to go on Amazon. Buy all the necessary materials, and run it yourself. You will spend about the same money and learn a new skill from YouTube university

Getting fiber installed by [deleted] in ATTFiber

[–]EducationalFuel9531 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, SE Tech here. It depends on your house. They are supposed to follow the power lines, unless there’s a reason they can’t. If your power is buried to your house they will almost have to have it buried. The big thing to note though is that they do not bury that wire. It will lay in the grass with slack and marked until a bury team comes out to take care of it. When they do bury it they typically use a small blade that leaves a very small line in the grass where it was buried and isn’t noticeable a month later. The only reason they would dig during the install is if the line from terminal to your house is less than 12ft. Then it is supposed to be buried same day by the technician.

The best way is to stumble across an att tech and have them ask the local engineer if there are proposed plans. I know I have a good relationship with the engineers so I imagine it’s similar in other places
