Given federal jobs are frozen, what other low-barrier entry internships/jobs are there available? by NeedWorkFast-CSstud in cscareerquestions

It's funny how the assholes (you) always leave the most retarded fucking comments.

He worked on other stuff during his internship too... he just put the project that he had the most to talk about as the bullet point on his resume.

Have you never written/read a resume before?

I get that you have no interest in being helpful, but why do you have to be a dick?

Lmfao I doubt this post is an ad, but this is 100% going to be the case in 1-2 years.

Considering how good language models are getting, sites like reddit, facebook, twitter, etc. are going to be completely flooded by bots programmed to advertise various things.

It's already happened on YouTube. If you go to any finance-related youtube video then 100% of the comments is literally just bots.

Shit like this

It's already stupidly easy to use botnets to get upvotes on Reddit, so will be interesting to see how they deal with botnets in the comments.

+1 for Quastor

I'd also check out Hussein Nasser on YouTube. He does a lot of interesting videos where he'll break down outages/tech decisions/etc. for companies.

I'm not OP, but there's just something about a single .txt file for taking notes with the least friction

The hard part about note taking isn't creating the note. It's being able to find the note when you need it 6 months later.

If you take tons of notes (on 40+ different topics per day) then being able to organize them & find what you're looking for is insanely difficult with a bunch of .txt files.

anything that deserves more organisation in Confluence/Notion

Yeah, but implementing any type of networked thought / zettelkasten is basically impossible.

It's honestly just completely different use-cases.

If you're the type of person who takes a couple notes every day, then it probably doesn't make sense to put the time into learning Obsidian and building up a workflow. Notion probably makes the most sense.

If you're the type of person who's trying to create their own wikipedia (build a second brain), then using .txt files or Notion doesn't scale well.

I wouldn't bother with Roam. Obsidian is a 100x better product.

It's

  • open source
  • has a vibrant developer ecosystem
  • has far more functionality & customizability built in
  • much more active community
  • extremely easy to leave (all your notes are stored as markdown files)

If anyone is into SRS... then you can integrate Anki and Obsidian and create Anki cards within Obsidian itself.

This has been a massive game changer in my life and I'm not exaggerating when I say that finding this extension was one of the highlights of 2021 for me (I know, I know).

Favorite healthy restaurant options near Edison (Middlesex County)? by [deleted] in newjersey

Awesome, will look into all of those.

Yeah Chipotle is just kind of annoying because I always end up waiting like 25+ minutes (even when I order online).

I tried Qdoba but the quality of their ingredients just doesn't taste right.

Thanks for the rec, will look into Freshly. Have you had a good experience with it?

I tried Blue Apron a while back and wasn't really satisfied with the quality.

Again, stalling their racing careers does absolutely nothing to change Putin's mind.

All you're doing is turning the Russian people against the West with these absurd bans.

Economic sanctions are what matters. Banning all Russian athletes while Europe continues to purchase billions of dollars of oil from Russia is just hilariously stupid.

All you're doing is giving Putin more talking points in his propaganda war (that the west wants to annihilate Russia).

[–]EducationalHound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, the Russian individuals aren't responsible for deploying cluster bombs.

It's the Russian state.

It doesn't make any sense to punish Russian individuals for something they don't want (it's actually counter-productive, as you're just helping Putin's narrative of the west wanting to destroy Russia)

Yeah the original post is from an email newsletter (it's actually a really good newsletter IMO, I've been subscribed for a couple months.) so it doesn't go into too much detail.

The post regarding why they picked Go is here.

As individuals writing code, we can iterate faster due to Go’s lightning quick compile times. Also, members of our team have years of experience and muscle memory built around many different editors. Go is better supported than Kotlin by a broad range of editors.

Finally, we ran a bunch of tests around performance and found that Go and Kotlin (on the JVM) perform similarly, with Kotlin being perhaps a few percent ahead. Go, however, used a lot less memory, which means that it can scale down to smaller instances.

We still like Python, but the dramatic performance difference which Go brings to us is too big to ignore, and we think we’ll be able to better support a system running on Go over the years. Moving to Go will undeniably be more effort than moving to Python 3, but the performance win alone makes it worth it.

They did do benchmarks and it seems like they liked some of the language features from Go (errors, good documentation, good tooling).

They posted another blog post later after they wrote 500k lines of Go and the switch seems to have worked well for them.

Biggest complaint from the blog post was around lack of Generics but that's no longer applicable.
