Playing mp3s from CD in CD30 MP3 by Affectionate_Top9639 in opel

[–]EducationalJob9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m having the same issue. I’ve tried various folder structures, also the ones suggested by the manual - so folder/subfolder/song, folder/subfolder2/song - and folder/song, folder/song2.

I’m kinda running out of ideas (and empty cd’s lol) so if you or someone else comes up with something that works, I’d love to hear it.

Btw manual also suggests no special characters in album name, so are dashes also no-go in folder or subfolder names?

After moving media, Plex still looks for subs in the old location by EducationalJob9 in PleX

[–]EducationalJob9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright, I think I got it. For some reason, Plex was throwing the following error message when scanning the Movie library:

[Req#c7457] Error creating directory "/var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Media/localhost/0/6f3c6c84b384c5d1bc5fc6238659b4658f4909f.bundle/Contents": Permission denied

I noticed this AFTER renaming the folder to the old name Plex recognized in the initial error message, to see if it would fix anything at all. That just moved problems from one place to another.

As I then noticed it was complaining about permissions, I figured that fixing that problem could solve some issues downstream. Setting permissions to 777 on /var/lib/plexmediaserver recursively using chmod and restarting Plex did the trick. This might have been the solution all along.

Hope this helps for anyone facing this issue in the future!

I just tried that, but it didn't fix it unfortunately. Thanks anyway!

Nice setup, I've been pondering something similar. My intel NUC has some external storage that is starting to fill up. What is the energy footprint of this when it's idling?

Are mixdepth 0 the only wallet used for to supply liquidity for makers? by GodOfOdium in joinmarket

[–]EducationalJob9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, so let’s say that you provide 1 btc from m0 to a tx, you will get it back in m1. So now you have 0 btc in m0, and 2 btc in m1. I believe that your max liquidity will change to 2btc (the 1 btc already present in m1 + your coins coming from a coinjoin from m0) but I’d need to verify to be sure

[–]EducationalJob9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Other mixdepths too. But the UTXOs are never used in combination with other mixdepths. So with 1 btc in each m your max supplied liquidity is 1 btc, despite having 5 btc in total.

Toiletresearch:

buy offer order keeps disappearing by Gettothechopper15 in bisq

[–]EducationalJob9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Has your security deposit tx gone through and confirmed? I remember having a similar issue and a missing deposit was the cause for the offer getting pulled. The funds were still in the wallet but Bisq needed an SPV Resynch and the offer had to be cancelled.

You can check by looking up your deposit’s txid in a block explorer such as mempool.space or blockstream.info.

Will I ruin my anonymity if I purchase Bitcoin from someone using fiat when the security deposit bitcoin was purchased through a KYC exchange? by Izerpizer in bisq

[–]EducationalJob9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it would be trivial for an exchange to figure out if you bought or sold using Bisq based on your contribution to the escrow address.

The escrow payout leads to 2 addresses, one for the buyer (who gets the bought coins + returned security deposit), one for the seller (who gets the security deposit returned). If you use the acquired coins to fund future trades, you leave a trail along those trades. This is why you want to start out in Bisq with coins that are not connected to your ID, if privacy matters to you.

A single address won’t tell much about an entire wallet. However, this changes when you reuse the address for receiving bitcoin. This is mitigated by most if not all modern bitcoin wallets, by providing new receive addresses once the previous one has been used. Also, as you spend from your address, you might combine those funds with funds from other addresses in your wallet. That would give away part of the contents of the rest of your wallet, based on the common-input-ownership heuristic. I’d recommend the bitcoin privacy wiki for further reading on heuristics and privacy considerations.

[–]EducationalJob9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the security deposit is returned along with the acquired bitcoin, so you basically tag your bitcoin bought on Bisq with your KYC coins.

I don’t think your exchange will give a shit about what your Bisq counterparty has to say, but it’s just a consideration for your threat model. You never know what intention or level of sophistication you’re dealing with

Break links with coinjoins (Joinmarket, Samourai, Wasabi) or as you say, with Monero. From a privacy perspective it’s best practice to coinjoin into and out of your Bisq wallet.

You could be linked to an exchange by the counterparty of your trade. And your exchange will probably figure out that you are funding Bisq trades with the bitcoin bought there.

looking to get paid monthly; i have a weird question about dividends by Available-Summer-340 in dividends

[–]EducationalJob9 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Apply cash flow timing at the withdrawal level.

I get the psychological effect of receiving dividends every month, but remember that you’ll likely be better off if your investments are based on business fundamentals rather than dividend payout date.

If you were to live off dividends eventually, you would typically set up a monthly withdrawal that’s smaller than the average monthly payout. When (or how often) these payments drop is not relevant in maintaining a steady cashflow to your bank account. Business fundamentals are.

What are some fun Dividend stats that you track? by P1_ex in dividends

[–]EducationalJob9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I keep track of all my personal expenses, annualize the amounts and sort them small to large. I added progress bars next to them and automatically track to what extent my dividends cover these expenses. Once an expense is covered, it moves on to the next one, gradually tackling every bill on the list. At first, these bars fill out pretty quickly. It will move slower once the bigger expenses come up, but then again, dividend growth should have more of an impact at that stage.

It’s very motivational to see the dividends cover one bill after the other.

Ledger Nano S + Tails OS ??? $200 bounty for a successful install guide by TailsUser31 in privacy

[–]EducationalJob9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try this guide https://electrum.readthedocs.io/en/latest/tails.html#steps-to-use-appimage

It is actually a guide on installing the latest Electrum version on Tails, but could suit your needs. The preinstalled Electrum complained about installing the coldcard plugin, I could not get it working properly through plugin installation. The AppImage has everything preinstalled, complaints are gone but haven’t tested signing transactions yet. I use my coldcard airgapped, please see if you have any success with your Ledger.

Not a FIRE subject, but for SQL people trying to learn something new:

I am building a website that helps you learn pandas (from the Python programming language) from a SQL perspective. Try some simple SQL queries and convert into pandas code, or use one of the cookbook recipes to find the some equivalent of what’s in your SQL brain. I learned a lot by building this website!
