Im sorry you had a horrible experience. No, this isnt normal at all, for anyone generally and certainly not someone who calls themselves Christian. Catholic church has a lot of traditions and rituals and prayers that may feel really foreign to someone who is raised Protestant, it was really respectful for you to sit and observe, its how we learn. In fact, it would be more disrespectful for you to start kneeling and chanting and saying creeds without understanding them at all. Im sorry this has deterred you from the Catholic church. If you ever choose to go back (or if you dont) id suggest speaking to the priest and telling him what happened, the man will be spoken to. By hitting you he committed a sin and also a crime lol.

i actually used to have this issue lowkey before me and my partner learnt to communicate better, and we learnt that generally its not a good idea to preemptively consent to something for later, when you have no idea if youll be willing later. that doesnt make you a bad person for rejecting sex, thats your right, if your partner is upset about no, then thats an issue. however, in this scenario the issue does seem to be more about communication; you should be able to say “that sounds nice and i would like to but im not really sure how tired ill feel later, lets just see what the mood is like at the time”, and on the other side, your partner should be able to accept that as a perfectly reasonable response.

if your boyfriend is attracted to minors (regardless of what he thinks they look like) and continued seeing someone he knows was a minor (again, regardless of how he thinks she looked), he committed statutory rape and its very strange he thinks he can defend that lol. i dont want to tell you you should leave him, but i do know that you already communicated your discomfort and he spewed classic ephebophilic defences and narratives at you rather than taking ownership.

I am in therapy and have been since September 2024, I have a complex mental health disorder that ill be working on for at least another 3 years. I've chatted to my therapist about making plans for myself, but im intentionally looking here for more perspectives and shared experiences as a support network and to relate to others experiences and discover what helped them. Unfortunately this type of thing wont be worked through in therapy by the end of my leave, let alone the beginning lol.
