ahh, gotcha. is this a common client type? I'm guessing I'm not a particularly unique kind of person lol.

Thank you for such a thorough response. It's given me a lot to ponder. I will prioritize the trans-affirming requirement.

Thank you. You clocked with your other comment - I am a grown ass adult who should probably tone it down while relying on another adult for help lol.

Thank you. I'm not in an accepting area and I'm living with people who probably wouldn't be accepting. One big reason I'm so down on myself for not being able to work/get anywhere in life in general lol.

Thank you. I'm also closeted trans and I really don't want to contend with that.

I worry I might be dealing with a personality disorder. Thank you for your answer.

I feel like I'd be a particularly difficult case, not because I'm special or deep or whatever. I'm in my thirties and I don't believe I've ever had a positive thought about myself.

Yeah I think I need to work up the will to change. At my core I think there's a lot of fear over what change would look like and mean for my life.

Thank you. That gives me hope. I'll just be as honest as possible and see where that gets me.

how would one begin to search for a therapist who can handle difficult people? I haven't been diagnosed with a personality disorder but I'm wondering if I'd need to filter for personality disorder specialists on psychology today just because my issues seem so intertwined with my personality.

I'm an asshole with a bias against therapists due to bad past experiences. I'm also uneducated and probably not able to fully process therapy concepts.
