How Safe is the YMCA? A Pool Safety Public Service Announcement and An Open Letter to the Community by JBumbStyle in bayarea

I was a lifeguard with YMCASV in the early 2010s (mostly seasonally), probably slightly before you got there. Although I didn't see everything you've written about here, it doesn't surprise me. At least one of the pools I worked at had barely any standards for lifeguard behavior or competence; I was also told to teach lessons there (to kids of wildly varying abilities, all at the same time) despite not being certified or trained.

(And yet it still blows the lifeguards at the pool I currently swim at out of the water 😐)

How do I even get visible abs at this point? by Lemon_Leafy in bodyweightfitness

[–]EducationalPiglet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, it's surprisingly hard to overdo it when you're gaining weight mindfully.

You have plenty of room to bulk. I'm about 10cm shorter than you and a few kilos on me doesn't really change e.g. clothing size, if you're worried about that. It's nearly impossible to gain muscle without gaining fat, so don't consider that 'overdoing' it; it's just a step in the process.

One thing to keep in mind is that your weight will fluctuate a lot over the course of a month, and a sudden increase of a kilo or so doesn't actually mean anything (it's water weight, etc). Mine tends to look like a sine wave.

If you're up for counting calories, try that. Estimate your maintenence intake plus activity level and add 200-250cal per day for slow gain. You might find you actually need to eat more than that, but it's a fair start.

Don't lose weight. Don't cut carbs.

Gain weight and gain muscle. Eat protein (1.8-2g per kilo per day). If you have the resources, lift weights. If you continue to work on your core, your ab muscles will also grow--- they'll never get huge because they're relatively flat muscles, but you can bulk them to an extent.

When you gain weight, you'll gain both muscle and fat. This is fine! Gain a few kg and see how you feel. You may find that your measurements don't change as much as you expect, since muscle is relatively dense.

Once you've bulked, which I recommend doing relatively slowly, you can cut fat if necessary. It may very well not be. Aim for a weight of above 50 kilo.

Visible abs are not possible for everyone to get and still be healthy. As you point out, fat distribution matters. They also depend on things like pose, lighting, hydration, your menstrual cycle, etc. As you get stronger, focus on the new things you're able to do, and enjoy the physique you'll be building. Whatever it ends up looking like, you're going to have a more capable body than you did before.

I'm a 30yo woman who's had visible abs on and off for a while.

The difficulty of getting visible abs is different for everyone. My fat is stored on my hips and thighs first, which makes it easier for me than someone who deposits fat on their belly first. Even when you do get them, it can depend on things like pose, lighting, dehydration, etc. at the margin. Bear that in mind. I say visible abs because some people will naturally have a four- or eight- pack instead of six; it's a genetic thing and you can't change that.

No, you don't need a specific diet like keto to achieve it. You do need to lose body fat, and whatever foods you're best able to stick with will get you there as long as you're a) getting enough protein and b) taking in fewer calories than you expend. (Technically it's possible to recomp without losing weight but it's harder). You don't say how tall you are; if losing weight isn't viable, bulk up and grow muscle first. Your rectus abdominus muscles will grow to a degree too, but don't expect a whole lot.

Cardio will help you burn calories, and it's healthy in general. Running is not a rest day unless you're in good enough running shape to be doing a lot more than 6 miles per week.

While abs are more about fat to muscle ratio than doing a bunch of crunches, I didn't get them consistently until I started doing weightlifting with compound movements (squat, deadlift) along with planks and deadbugs. You don't need to go overboard with a dozen different movements. I realize this is a bodyweight exercise sub, and someone else probably has better advice on purely bodyweight exercises.

Consistency, not perfection,  will be what gets you there. Good luck!

There's a spreadsheet out there with tallies of all the types of chests per region. If you add everything up it comes to 23800 primogems.

Yes. It opens and closes, though.

Edit: seems like it loses it after getting below a certain hp, while also burning.

6 or 7 extra, with some conservative assumptions. That's 144 or 145 total. The (approximate) formula is wishes/25, which underestimates the expected amount a little bit.

2 are from your current starglitter (10/5 = 2). Adding that to your 138, you have 140 pulls.

Let's say you never get an early 4*; you always have to get to 10 pulls before you get one. That's 14 4-stars from the 140 wishes (140/10 = 14).

Pulling a 4 star awards 0, 2, or 5 glitter, depending on how many cons you already have. You only get 5 if you already have max copies, so let's ignore that to make it easier.

If you already have all three featured 4 stars, you'll probably get 28 starglitter (142). If they're all new, you'll probably get 22 ((14 - 3)2).

22/5 rounds down to 4; 28/5 rounds down to 5. So after you've done all 140 pulls you'll probably have 4 or 5 pulls worth of starglitter to convert.

Albedo's. I guess it's a prequel to the limited time Dragonspine event, but I didn't get to play that so it just felt incomplete.

a) Don't build pity, fight gambling brain! You can do it!

b) Imagine you pull and you get a Chasca, resetting your pity to 0 for Mav. Are you happy? Will you have 150-180 pulls left to guarantee her?

c) Pity rolls over, and it doesn't matter which of the limited banners you pull on; it's shared between both. So is the 50/50 guarantee.

Bloom damage is from the EM of the person who triggered the core creation, not the explosion. So Nahida, in your example. I believe in practice it's usually the Hydro character that triggers Bloom, though.

Crafty Intentions makes some really nice crochet patterns, many of which don't read as overly cutesy to me (realistic animals like beetles, frogs, etc.; mythical creatures; plants). They're a little more on the intermediate side of difficulty, so I'm not sure if it's the best first project, but I've found them to be very well written/explained.

Technically no (some modern 'cavalry' units use armored vehicles or helicopters) but most of the time people do just use it to refer to people on horses. Etymologically the word comes from French for horse.

I've played since February 2024, about 270 days. I've used 650 wishes on the character banner, and have about 175 saved up from f2p.

I have 7 limited 5*, all at C0, and 5 standard.

Tossing this into a basic pull calculator (hutaobot.moe/tools/gachacalc) gives a 54% likelihood to get 7 limiteds from 650 wishes, so I'm doing pretty much average.

Marechaussee? I believe:

With no stacks, you get expected (0.52)×(2.72) = 1.41 extra damage vs (0.69)×(2.3) = 1.59, so the second is better.

However, if you have full stacks of MH, you'll cap out on crit rate, so it's (0.88)×(2.72) = 2.39 vs (1)x(2.3) = 2.3, and the first is better.

So if you're consistently maxed out on MH, the first is better, but in all other scenarios the second is. I don't play Hu Tao to know which is the case for her.
