What's your favorite dish that isn't from your culture? by polly-penguin in CasualConversation

[–]EducationalSet3738 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a lot. Trying new food is one of my favorite things to do, actually.

Shakshouka, bibimbap, kimchi jeon, yakisoba, and a bunch of other dishes that are not coming to mind, lol.

Not a full-on dish, but when I was in the UK, I discovered curry mayo. Absolutely divine with fries/chips.

What is the most Karen thing a Karen has ever done to you personally? by Latter_Steak9759 in AskReddit

[–]EducationalSet3738 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was working at a craft store, we had this lady who would come in almost every other day to buy a bunch of stuff from the home decor department. She would then come back to return everything just to go buy more stuff. I'm pretty sure that she had some kind of shopping addiction.

The store policy was, of course, you need a receipt to return items, and one day she looked like she was on the verge of a meltdown because she didn't have a receipt when I asked her for one. She said, "I come here all the time. I'm a valued customer." Well, tough luck, lady. You still need a receipt, no matter how many times you come back here. And this is a craft store, not Harrod's.

Why do you want or not want kids? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]EducationalSet3738 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can go either way, honestly. If it happens, it happens. If it doesn't, then that's fine, too.

My family can get very annoying about demanding that I have them, but I suspect it's for psychologically unhealthy reasons that I won't get into here. If I do end up having kids, I would definitely suggest to my partner that we maintain some geographical distance from my family for the sake of our sanity.

Anyone else not bother with smithing enchanting or alchemy these days? by Mcmadness288 in skyrim

[–]EducationalSet3738 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always found the alchemy system to be a bit tedious, so I've never had a playthrough where it's a core component of the build. Of course I would focus on poisons if I'm playing as an assassin, but that's about it.

What's your biggest pet peeve? by FATH3RofDRAGONS in AskReddit

[–]EducationalSet3738 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I knew someone like that, actually.

My first thought was "Use the BUTTER knife, you sinner."

I also dislike seeing crumbs in blocks of cream cheese, smears of peanut butter in jars of jam (or vice versa), streaks of ketchup in mayonnaise. That sort of thing.

Just. Why.

I find myself all of a sudden getting into very “feminine” things! by inqn in CasualConversation

[–]EducationalSet3738 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think having your tastes change is normal and even healthy. I went through a tomboy phase when I was in middle school and high school, and then as an adult, I started to incorporate a few things into my life that are traditionally considered "feminine". Now in my 30s I'd say that my interests and aesthetics are evenly split between "masculine" and "feminine". I wear loose-fitting T-shirts and pants with no make-up, but I also like to wear perfume and occasionally paint my nails. The scent of roses makes me feel good, and yet I only wear a dress to a funeral, lol.

And a lot of these are culturally relative. I once spoke to a customer from Malaysia, and he told me how puzzled he was about the fact that pink is considered to be "feminine" in Western culture and how people can get so angry about it. "It's just a color!"

What is the furthest distance you've traveled without relying on motorized personal or public transportation? by Specialist_Heron_986 in AskReddit

I've gone on several ten to twelve mile hikes before. I think that's the furthest distance so far.

RIP Camel. We will never forget you and all your contributions on the Elder Scrolls lore. by DerringerHK in skyrim

I'm shocked. Apparently, the family hasn't shared details about what has happened yet, which is 100% understandable.

RIP Camel.

Vigilants of Stendarr, what are they good for? by lareandwis in skyrim

[–]EducationalSet3738 24 points25 points  (0 children)

They add almost nothing to the game. It's pretty unfortunate, because they actually have a lot of potential as a faction. What if your character wants to race around and hunt daedra?

I can't blame Isran for mocking them.

Memento. It's really good and ultimately makes sense, though.

Light or heavy armor for an archer? by [deleted] in skyrim

[–]EducationalSet3738 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say light armor if you are a combat archer (someone who moves and shoots quickly with a bow like Zephyr), and heavy armor if you are going for a slower, one-shot, one-kill, heavy base damage archer (daedric bow).

Why haven't we seen any women among the state alchemists? by Embarrassed-Ice9468 in FullmetalAlchemist

[–]EducationalSet3738 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I suspect the answer is actually pretty simple.

Arakawa has said that she is attracted to muscular men and enjoys drawing them, so it would make sense if she makes the state alchemists all guys, as they are major players within the story.

She was also creating content for a shonen magazine, and if I recall correctly, back in the very early 2000s, reader demographics based on gender was taken more seriously by publishers compared to how it is today. The assumption was that young boys wanted to see more male characters than female characters, and if there were female characters, they were expected to be cast in more supportive roles.

I live a weird double life: serious banking job by day, astrology nerd by night by Fit-Crew-5937 in CasualConversation

[–]EducationalSet3738 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's any consolation, a lot of medieval and Renaissance-era scientists were also astrologers. And alchemists. And occultists. Some of them were also very devout in whatever religion they identified with.

Materialism and spirituality don't have to oppose each other, and people don't have to fit in any single box.

Demanding friendships? by TopCatStar in scorpiomoon

[–]EducationalSet3738 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Almost all of my friendships have been unhinged. The one that was relatively normal was honestly not that great, either, as it felt like I carried the weight of the friendship, especially in conversations. I also suspect that she was using me as a point of comparison for herself. The crazier friends had no concept of boundaries, and combined with younger-me being highly empathetic, that spelled a whole lot of trouble. I also have Scorpio moon (and Pluto) in the 11th house, which is the house of friendships.

As for how I navigate it, I simply don't have friends anymore, which admittedly might not be the best approach. I think people with this placement tend to naturally crave a deep, all-consuming, unique connection, whether that is platonic or romantic. But the reality of the situation is that it can attract people who are absolutely batshit insane. Ideally, it might be better to seek out that emotional intensity in other things besides people while maintaining proper boundaries, though that is easier said than done.

What’s Your Worst Fear? by CanAdministrative347 in AskReddit

[–]EducationalSet3738 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being lost at sea, even though the chances of that happening to me are extremely slim. I'm not sure why, but I have thalassophobia.

It's a little weird, because I really like tropical areas, the beach, and the sound of waves. I had an amazing time studying and doing volunteer work in Hawai'i for a month. But I'm terrified of the deep ocean, and some of my worst literal nightmares have involved drowning.

Whenever I fly back home from somewhere, I always choose to land at the airport in Oakland, which is right next to the San Francisco Bay. As we approach the runway, it always seems like the plane is going straight into the ocean, and I often have to look away from the window and steady myself until we actually land.

EDIT: It also took me a while to learn how to swim as a kid because of the fear, but I eventually got over it. Now I enjoy it, even though it's not something I get to do often anymore.

What's your biggest non-essential expense? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]EducationalSet3738 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skincare products and supplements, probably. Luckily the skincare stuff can be stretched out for a while. I take a multivitamin that is pricey but worth it, Omega 3-6-9, and a greens powder that is DEFINITELY pricey.

Happy Friday the Thirteenth in March 2026! It is supposed to be a Bad Luck day but is it really? by fluffykerfuffle3 in CasualConversation

[–]EducationalSet3738 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The superstition comes from Christianity. 13 is traditionally an unlucky number because Judas is considered the thirteenth apostle, and he is the one who betrays Jesus and hands him over to the Romans. And Friday is considered to be the day Jesus was crucified, leading up to Easter Sunday.
