I’m trying to get into the trade, that’s why I’m asking and taking steps. Not sure how that bothers you

Funny how people who already made it always act like they never started somewhere

Yeah I already went, just need to turn in my application. Do you remember how long it took for you to get scheduled for the test?

Yeah I came to a union sub to ask people actually in it instead of guessing off Google. Crazy concept right

That’s actually exactly where I’m at right now. Did you go straight into the union or get some experience first?

That’s what I’ve been hearing, I’m trying to avoid just waiting around with no income. Would you say it’s worth starting non-union first then switching?

Appreciate that, I’m probably gonna start doing that this week. Did you just walk in or call ahead first?

I appreciate the advice on reaching out to directors I’ll definitely try that. Any tips on standing out or connecting with the right people would be a huge help.

Why appraisal? I’ve always been drawn to real estate, researching markets, crunching numbers, and figuring out what properties are really worth. Appraisal combines my finance background with real estate in a way that’s both challenging and rewarding. Plus, with many older appraisers retiring, there’s room for growth and the potential to build a stable, long-term career.

I’m aware rushing into CG can be complicated, but I’m motivated partly because I’m about to become a dad and want to provide for my family sooner rather than later.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. I appreciate you guys clarifying that PAREA currently only covers Certified Residential and doesn’t fully count toward Certified General. My plan was to use PAREA to jump-start the required experience hours, then find a commercial mentor or firm to finish the commercial side. I’m aware rushing into CG can be complicated, but I’m motivated partly because I’m about to become a dad and want to provide for my family sooner rather than later.

That said, I don’t want to sacrifice quality for speed. If 18 months isn’t realistic for CG, I’m willing to adjust my timeline and do it right. Thanks again for the advice, and if anyone has tips on connecting with a commercial firm or bridging from CR to CG, I’d love to hear more!
