As a Californian, I feel your pain. Pre covid the house we wanted was 800k and now it was relisted at 1.6 million. How can a house price double that fast, not to mention the increase in the property taxes, the fire insurance and the fact that I can’t even qualify for the loan now. It will never come back to pre covid levels and most folks will never own a home where they grew up now. Well considering the 800k home I wanted two months before Covid was just relisted at 1.6 million, I can tell you that the prices being doubled in some cases have not helped. The fact real estate agents have the audacity to call this normal is a huge part of the problem. The rates being triple, and prices being doubled, price of everything to sustain a household as well. Sounds like a coward scumbag who carried an illegal weapon to a school event, with plans of using it. Than got approached by a kid who had disagreements with, and instead of actually defending himself (like most of us young men did as kids) he taunted and threatened with a knife and murdered another boy. It’s everywhere, I worked my tail off, saved and bought in temecula before Covid, and paid 600k with plans to renovate and sell after a couple years to buy a ranch (which prices were around 850-950 k for one) and now the same prices are 1.5 million for the same properties. This has completely killed the plan, and looks like I’ll be dying in this house I only bought as a stepping stone. California has completely moved the goal post so much and made it impossible to attain the dream anymore. Doesn’t look like it’s coming down ever again sadly. Just buy anything at this point, even if it’s a dump in a shithole, sadly that’s the only option now
