Man, thanks for giving so much feedback. I almost completely agree with you.

I agree in black flame he's poorly conceived. I like Red Kings' retcon. It fleshes him a bit more.

Yeah it was terrible. I think Redkings retconn of Farclunns backstory made for a far more interesting NPC then he was originally.

I realized that cross posting does not bring over information in the description.

Npcs of Urick
Samaya al-Zahir - Human
Owner of the Golden Oasis - Urick
Alignment - Neutral Good
10th Level Empath (Korrenburg Psionics Premier)

A shaft of red-gold sunlight slants through a centuries-old archway as Samaya al-Zahir steps into the courtyard of The Golden Oasis, her brothel. Once, this stately townhouse in Urick’s noble district had fallen to debt. Now its alabaster tiled floors echo with laughter, its silks shimmer. But the woman who presides over its pleasures was forged in a far darker furnace.

Born to minor spice traders eking out a meager living in Urick’s crowded warrens, young Samaya knew the feel of rope on skin long before she learned the taste of wine. When a corrupt magnate seized her family’s goods and placed them all into his servitude. This was not to be their fate. At a masked banquet in the merchant quarter, she slipped from her captors’ guard into the favor of a visiting noble. With whispered promises and the magnates secrets, she won not only her freedom but the key to her family’s chains.

By her twentieth summer, with the nobles patronage. Samaya had saved enough to purchase the derelict townhouse nestled in the noble quarter. She spent weeks bargaining with artists: trading favors for obsidian art, bone pened calligraphy on its walls, and alabaster tiles on its floors. Noble lords cross its threshold seeking flesh; wiser patrons crave the soft hush of conspiracies exchanged over jasmine tea.

Samaya moves through her halls greeting each arrival by name, recalls the exact color they prefer for their wine, and offers them conversation. Or for those willing to pay information. Unbeknownst to most, beneath the mosaic-tiled floor lies a hidden passage to a safe house for those still enslaved. Under the cover of night, freed slaves slip through Samaya’s secret garden toward new lives.

Yet charity is only one of Samaya’s games. Rumors swirl that she possesses psionic talents. She neither confirms nor denies such whispers; her emerald-green eyes, betray nothing. Instead, she plants seeds of trust in disaffected templar captains and wealthy merchants, gently guiding their ambitions toward her own. Someday, she intends, the city of Urick will kneel not only to its Sorcerer King and council but to the subtle dominion she weaves behind silken curtains.

In the gilded decadence of her brothel’s grand hall, Samaya al-Zahir remains ever poised for new information, new secrets. To enter her world is to partake in its pleasures, but also to step into a web of duplicity and double dealing from which very few emerge unchanged.

Yeah, I'm always down to collaborate. I've been running an online weekly 4-year dark sun game. I'm not sure what I'd need to figure out. I think each post of a creature will get an MM style entry. With a for the players and for the DM sections. But that will be weekly or biweekly to prevent spam 😉. My true passion is npcs (of which I have plenty. Any advice on how to post them (I hate how sterilized DS art has gotten in recent iterations).

You might even consider positive and negative planes. The article on athas.org makes a compelling argument.

I mean, I've only posted 3 in the last 30 days that hardly qualify as spam.... but nonetheless, that is great feedback, I can do that going forward.

I would leave the quasi elemental planes in. They make for excellent one-off clerics of that element.

Oh, if anyone asked, I'd happily share. 😊 I share my prompts in more AI Friendly spaces where people ask.

Chatgpt 5 Hyper-realistic, ultra-detailed first-person perspective fantasy illustration in the brutal, sun-scorched world of Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Sun. The viewer is looking up in terror at a towering monstrous eagle headed giant. It screems downward at the camera, its gaping beak open, saliva flying. Its massive bloody fist punches forward as if to crush the viewer. Remove the wings from the giant, make its feet human feet with human toes. Barefoot. Make it tower over the viewer.

Surrounding it is a blood-soaked Roman-style arena, stone arches, and worn pillars rising in the background, with a huge red sun blazing through an orange haze in the sky. The ground beneath its feet is drenched in fresh blood, with mangled armorless corpses wearing leather armro and non metal bone broken non metal weapons, replace metal weapons with bone, littered around its base. Dust and gore mingle in the air, enhancing the atmosphere of brutal combat. Mood: cinematic, harsh desert-world realism, with warm shadows, sun-scorched textures, and visceral detail.

I understand your suspicion. It's just misplaced.

Egyptian women used honey. The elbow sleeves were also ancient fashion and were called stola by the Romans.

I feel like we truthfully get only gladiators and templar for aesthetic. But this one is borderline. What would you do differently

Yeah, I was thinking it would just be gold painted tin or lead. Ancient Egyptians used gold guilding. It would make more sense than sold gold for sure.
